To accomplish great things we must not only act but also dream, not only plan but also believe.

CH 24

Gia woke up, this time it was morning and she had pulled out her brother’s sofa bed to sleep on. She had cried her eyes out, over everything, her brother’s well being and being nostalgic for the kids at her work. But most of all, she cried over Nikolas. She missed him so much it hurt, deep in her chest; it was a lingering pain that just wouldn’t go away. When she slept now, she was so exhausted that she fell into a deep, dreamless sleep. At first that was very much welcomed, but Gia couldn’t help it, she began to miss Nikolas and the dreams that they shared. But why should she? Even if he was real like she believed in her heart that he was, he told her that he was in love with someone else. She should just let him go. Gia sat up suddenly, her head spinning at the sudden movement. She looked up and gasped when she saw her mother standing over her. “I’m sorry that I scared you. Did you get some good sleep?” She asked. Gia nodded her head and smiled softly at her mother. “Yeah I did. I’m going to get dressed and go over to the hospital.” She said. Gia sensed her mother’s protest coming on before she even began to speak. “Not without eating something first. When’s the last time you ate?” Flo asked. “I had a yogurt last night mother, I’m fine really.” Gia said. “A yogurt? That’s hardly a meal Gia. You need to eat. I’m cooking you breakfast.” Flo insisted. “I’ll grab something at that diner across the street from the hospital OK?” Gia said. Flo’s face softened. “Fine, just as long at you eat Gia. I don’t need two children in the hospital.” Flo said. Gia rolled her eyes. “Will you stop.” She sighed as she turned and walked towards the bathroom to get ready to go.

Nikolas woke up with his eyes burning and an aching pain in his chest. He had somehow found his way to Wyndemere and had cried, more than he thought he was capable of crying, until he fell asleep. He began to cry again as he woke up with no dream to remember. He had finally convinced himself to go to sleep so that he could dream about Gia. He had to know for himself if she was really dead. There was a lingering fear that had grown inside of him that had started as soon as Sarah said what she did. The last dream he had of Gia she was laying in a bed, she had died in front of his eyes. He didn’t want to believe it, but he told himself that if she he dreamt of her everything would be all right. If she were alive, why didn’t she come to him? But then why didn’t Jordyn know that Gia was hurt? Or the guy who said she was in port Charles. He had said it was a family emergency, but if she were hurt then why would they be so calm? He just didn’t know what to think. He suddenly got up, feeling dizzy and nauseous. He needed to see his brother. He took a shower and got dressed, and then left to go to Kelly’s.

Gia nervously looked around as she stepped into the diner. She felt uneasy coming here, remembering what happened last time she came here. Thankfully she didn’t see the blond guy anywhere. She walked up to the counter and the waitress came out from the kitchen to greet her. “Hi, what can I get you?” Liz asked. “Just a muffin and a coffee to go please.” Gia said. Liz nodded and left to get her coffee.

Nikolas was about to go in to Kelly’s when his arm was grabbed. “Nikolas where have you been?” Lucky asked. “I went out of town. Can we talk?” Nik asked. “Yeah of course.” Lucky answered. “Not here though, somewhere more private. How about the park, it’s usually empty around this time?” Nik suggested. “Yeah sure that sounds good, lets go.” Lucky said. He and his brother began to walk away, Lucky was slightly distracted when the door to Kelly’s swung open as he passed it but continued to walk, eager to see what was bothering Nikolas so much. Gia walked like a zombie, clutching the brown bag in her arms and staring forward as she walked through the courtyard and headed for the hospital.

Nikolas sat down on a swing and his brother took the one next to it. “What’s wrong Nikolas?” Lucky asked. Nik suddenly burst into tears. Lucky touched his arm with concern. “What happened?” He asked gently. “I went to Brooklyn because I remembered something in one of the dreams about Gia. Remember the one when it was at a strange building? Anyway I remembered the name and I went there to go find her. She’s real Lucky! Well she was real.” Nik started to cry again. “What? Wait she’s real? That’s great Nikolas, you have to find her!” Lucky exclaimed. “No Lucky… she was real. But she’s dead. Sarah even saw her but she said that she’s gone. She’s gone Lucky and I never even got to see her. I… I don’t even know what to do now. What do I do Lucky?” Nikolas cried in desperation. Lucky shook his head slowly, tears of sympathy practically choking him. He didn’t know what to say to him. “I think that you need to move on Nikolas. I know that it’s hard but your uncle is ruthless and he won’t stop pressuring you until you’re married. I think that Sarah is your only option.” Lucky said. Nikolas looked away; this was not what he needed to hear. “But I love Gia.” He said softly. Lucky had tears on his cheeks now as he looked into his brother’s eyes. “You loved her. She’s dead.” He said softly. Nikolas sobbed as he shook his head stubbornly.

“Gia, please tell me what’s wrong. You haven’t even eaten what you bought from Kelly’s. Your coffee’s probably cold by now.” Marcus said looking at his sister as she sat in the chair next to his bed. Gia looked down and frowned at the bag in her hand, putting it down on the table next to her. “Marcus if I tell you something, will you promise not to laugh in my face and tell me I’m crazy?” Gia asked. Marcus smiled. “Depends on what you say.” He joked but then turned serious, picking up her hand and holding it. “Tell me what’s bothering you Gia, I won’t laugh I promise.” He probed. Gia smiled softly. “I’ve been having these dreams for a few months now. Each one is different and strange, but there’s always the same person in it, a man. His name is Nikolas and I’ve never met him before but I think he’s real. No I know he is, and he’s having the same dreams.” Gia said. Marcus looked at his sister. “Are you in love with this man?” He asked. Gia’s eyes widened, at the same time becoming coated in tears. “I do.” She choked out. “Well what are you doing sitting in here with me? You should be looking for him.” Marcus said. “You think he’s real?” Gia asked surprised. “You just said he was Gia, you know the truth baby girl, you know what’s in your heart.” Marcus said. Gia smiled but her eyes were sad. “I think he’s in love with someone else.” She said. Marcus shook his head. “That can’t be. If he’s real and sharing your dreams like you say he is, then he has to be in love with you. Gia you are what every man longs to dream about. You’re exotic and beautiful, funny and so smart, he loves you, he has to or he’s a fool.” Marcus said. Tears rolled down Gia’s cheeks and they cooled off her blushing cheeks. “I love you Marcus.” She said as she stepped up and hugged him. “I love you too Gia. Now go look for him.” Marcus said. “I don’t even know where to start.” Gia shook her head. “Yes you do Gia, just trust your heart.” He said. Gia smiled and nodded her head. “I have to find him.” She stated before getting up and walking out.
