CH 35

“What are you doing?” Nik asked. Gia whipped her head around. “What does it look like I’m doing?” Gia asked as she reached for the box of pancake mix. “It looks like you’re trying to kill yourself that’s what. Come on get down from there.” Nik said as he watched Gia balance herself on a chair, stretching to reach the box. “No! I said that I would make you breakfast and that’s what I’m going to do.” Gia said annoyed. Nik got up and walked behind her. “Well at least let me help you.” Nik said. “No!” Gia said stubbornly, the chair tipped out from under her and Nik caught her just before she went tumbling down. “God Gia, see that’s why I didn’t want you to do that.” Nik said angrily as she still remained in his arms. “See this was my plan.” Gia said grinning as she wrapped her arms around him. “No it wasn’t.” Nik huffed. “OK fine it wasn’t, but look it all worked out, no big deal.” Gia said shrugging. Nik shook his head slowly as he let her down. “Gia sometimes I swear you scare the hell out of me.” He said. Gia laughed and began to lift the chair up as she attempted to climb right back on it. “OK that’s it Gia come on get down.” Nik said grabbing her arms and pulling her towards him. “Besides remember the last time you tried to cook for me? Well I do and I wasn’t good.” Nik said. Before she could think about what she was doing, Gia turned around and punched him hard in the stomach; her reaction shocked even her as her jaw dropped. She instantly took off running. Nik stood there in shock for a while clutching his stomach as his breath was slowly returned to him; he soon took off running to find her. Gia screeched as she ran around Wyndemere barley breathing as she ran, trying to get away from the revenge she was sure he would be giving her. She rushed into a room at Wyndemere she hadn’t seen since the day she had arrived there. It seemed to be filled with family heirlooms of the Cassadine family. She stopped as she reached a bookshelf filled with numerous books. Her fingers grazing along the interesting textures of the books, her gaze landed on one. “It’s about the family.” She said in a whisper. “Gia!” She heard Nik yell, she herd him getting closer just as she was about to pull the book out. She dropped her hand from the book and headed for the door, half way through the room the door swung open. “What are you doing in here?” Nik asked. “I got lost.” Gia said laughing slightly. “Well stay out of this room OK? It creeps me out.” Nik said holding his hand out to her. She took it and screamed when he pulled her to him and attacked her stomach with tickles in return for the punch she gave him.

Gia’s mind still lingered on the book she had found as she and Stefan and Nikolas sat at the dinner table. She wondered what kind of mystery’s she would find if she looked into the family history. She thought about Helena, why she is the way she is. She wondered if she became the evil person she is because of her family. She looked over at Nikolas, then at Stefan, they were so kind, so loving, how could they ever be in the same family as Helena? She was going to have to find out more about this family. She continued to eat her food quietly. Nik soon asked her if she was OK, realizing that she was being quiet she smiled and nodded at him reassuringly wondering if he bought it.

Something was off with Gia. Nik could feel it. He wondered what was up with her. She was being so quiet it was beginning to scare him, she usually gabbed away during dinner. He and Stefan had gotten so use to it and he could tell that they both noticed the change in Gia’s mood. He felt her gaze upon him as he ate but did nothing, allowing her to ponder whatever it was that she was thinking about him. After a long silence he finally asked. “Are you OK?” She looked up at him and smiled at him and nodded her head but he knew now that something was definitely up.

Gia lay wrapped up in Nik’s arms after making love to him. She didn’t want Nikolas to worry about her so she wanted to prove to him that she was OK. But she couldn’t sleep as her thoughts still lingered on that book; she looked over at Nikolas and knew he was deep asleep. Gia carefully pulled his arm off of her chest and got out of bed. Nikolas stirred but she touched his face and it seemed to sooth him as a small smile curled at his lips. She waited until she was sure that he was asleep before stepping away and slipping a silk robe over her nude body and quietly walking out of the bedroom. She crept down to the room she was in earlier that day and slowly pushed the door open. She turned on the small desk lamp and headed over to the bookshelf. Quickly finding the book she saw, she pulled it out and walked over to the desk and opened it up. Gia read in horror about the family she was about to be married into. The book was filled with secrets and lies and murders. These people were monsters, pictures of the things she was reading about flashed through her head as panic began to fill her. Women being raped, children being killed, lies, and affairs, horrid things filled the pages of the book. She shook her head violently as she tried to push the awful images from her head. She stood up and walked over to the shelf with the book in her hands violently pushed it back into it, she was shocked when the whole shelf pushed back. Curious, she kept pushing back until eventually is swiveled and closed behind her. Her breathing became heavy as she heard a click behind her, she tried to push back on what was now a wall but it wouldn’t move. She stood in the pitch-black hall, feeling around the stonewalls, she had no idea where she was or how she was going to get out of there. She began to pound on the wall as she screamed, not wanting to leave and get lost, she thought it would be a better idea to try and get someone to let her out. She pounded until her knuckles were bleeding and screamed until her throat burned with pain. Tears streamed down her face as she slid down the wall in exhaustion and sat on the cold floor and wrapped her arms around herself. She prayed that someone would find her.
