CH 1
She sighed as she smoothed out the creases of her jeans and stood up, grabbing her carry on bag from the overhead compartment and hoisting it on top of her shoulder. As she exited the plane, walking with the crowed of people who were exiting as well, she stopped. She didn’t want to do this, why did she have to do this?
“Excuse me but could you please move?” she turned to face an angry woman with a bag of her own. “It’s been a long flight.” The woman added. She nodded her head and turned around and kept walking.
“Georgie! Over here Honey!” she lifted her head to the sound of her mother’s voice, scanning the airport for her.
Her eyes landed on her mother and a mix of emotions washed over her. She missed her mother while she was out of her life but she couldn’t help but feel resentful that she had to visit her by herself. How was it that Maxie was able to get out of this? Summer camp, please more like three whole weekends filled with hot guys and wild orgy’s… okay maybe not orgy’s but she was sure that her sister was going to have fun while she… well she got to spend the summer “reconnecting” with her mother.
“Hey sweetie how was your flight?” her mother ran up to her, her signature blond locks bouncing as she ran to her and wrapped her arms around her.
“It was fine mom.” Georgie tucked a piece of her light brown hair behind her ear as she pulled back from her mother’s embrace.
“Well how are you? How’s your sister?” and there it was, the first mention of her sister, her mother always had a way of throwing Maxie into every conversation they had.
“Maxie is… Maxie mom. Look I’ve had a long flight, can we just go to grandmas please?”
“Of course come on lets get your bags.” Felicia directed her daughter to the luggage carousel and they picked up the rest of her luggage.
She gazed out the window of her mother’s brand new white GMC Sierra pickup truck and admired the scenery. No matter how much she felt like complaining there was really nothing she loved more than being in Texas. Ever since she was little she loved the state, plain and dull to others but to Georgie, it was the most beautiful place to be. It wasn’t cold and dreary like Port Charles tended to be. It was warm and had the bluest skies she had ever seen.
“Your grandma is so excited to see you Georgie, it’s all she’s been talking about lately, and she has something she wants to show you.” Her mother pulled her from her silent homage to her childhood haven. “I can’t wait to see her either.” And she honestly couldn’t.
Pulling up to her grandmother’s ranch, memories of past summers came flooding back to her and the site of her property caused her heart to warm.
“There’s my little Georgie girl.” Her grandmother’s lovely voice made a smile form on her face. She hugged her in a warm embrace. “How are you Honey?” Georgie let her pat her cheek lovingly. “I’m good Grandma thank you. I’m just tired is all.”
“Too tired to see what my surprise is?” Georgie couldn’t help but get excited over the word “surprise” and she cursed herself for feeling giddy like a little kid. “Of course not.” She shook her head. “Good, now come on.”
Georgie fallowed her grandmother through the house, all the way outside to the stables where the family’s horses were kept. She couldn’t keep her heart from pounding with anticipation, if this surprise wasn’t what she thought it was she was sure she’d break down into a fit of tears. As they entered the huge stable a smile lit up her whole face.
“This is it, what do you think?” Georgie looked up to see a beautiful white horse in front of her.
“Grandma?” her voice was full of hope.
“She’s yours.” The words hit her and tears sprang to her eyes.
“Oh Grandma thank you so much.” She wrapped her arms around her.
“You’re welcome Honey I know you’ll take good care of her. Well I’ll leave you to get acquainted; I have to check on Bessie. She’s been getting out lately.” Her grandmother left to tend to a cow that Georgie remembered very well from her days of endless milking.
Georgie turned back around and looked up at the beautiful animal that had just been given to her and cautiously petted its nose. She loved horses and would always ride them when she came to Texas but this was different, this was hers. The horse nuzzled against her hand and she smiled as she petted her more vigorously.
“What should I name you huh? How about Juliet?” she named her favorite Shakespeare character and the horse butted her head against Georgie’s arm a little. “Juliet it is then.” She nodded.
Georgie was distracted by the sound of a horse whinnying from one of the other stalls. She approached the stallion slowly, reaching up to pet it slowly.
“That’s Racer and he bites.” Georgie screamed as she whipped around. Her eyes landed on a boy who looked about her age. “Geez calm down.” He held his hands up.
“You scared me! How long have you been standing there?” her cheeks were pink with fury... and maybe from embarrassment.
“Oh long enough to hear the naming of Juliet over there.” He nodded his head towards the horse.
“Georgie why in the world were you screaming?” she turned to see her grandmother standing there. “He startled me.” She breathed.
“Oh I’m sorry Honey I should have warned you about our stable hand for the summer. This is Dillon, he’s a Quartermaine actually.”
Georgie looked over at him. “Like Emily?” she asked. “It’s a long story.” Dillon chided in.
“Why is he working here?” she ignored Dillon, still annoyed that he had startled her.
“Lila called your mother and asked if he could stay the summer here, apparently the Quartermaine house is pretty full right now.” Her grandmother informed her. “Oh.” Georgie nodded her head.
“Sorry I scare you.” Dillon smiled softly and tilted his head towards her a little. Georgie’s face softened but she only managed a shrug.
