CH 2

There was one more surprise that her grandmother had for her and that was that the room she usually stayed in had been redecorated. She had to admit, her mother did a good job choosing what she would like. Never the flower type, Georgie was glad that her mother didn’t go for that look. Instead the furniture was all white but accented with colors.

The queen size canopy bed seemed huge compared to her twin size at home. The color scheme was blues and purple’s and there was nothing too bright. The windows were huge, light seeped through and someone had hung a crystal from the center that cast rainbows on the cream colored carpet.

Georgie’s favorite thing was the photograph of her new horse Juliet that her mother must have taken, not many people knew this, but Felicia Jones was quite a photographer, a skill picked up from her days of playing spy with Mac.

Once she had unpacked all her things, she got out her journal and began to jot down her entry for the day so far.

First there was her long flight with the rude encounter with the woman behind her. Then there was seeing her mother, and then seeing her grandma’s ranch again after so long.

With her pen resting on her lip, Georgie remembered seeing her horse for the first time, she smiled and wrote about that.

Searching her mind for any other things worth writing about, she remembered something. The boy that startled her, Dillon, the first description to write down that she could think of was annoying, then cocky with that grin of his. But then her hand just unconsciously wrote it, about his eyes, the way he stared at her, it made her heart race just thinking about it. She shook her head, tossed the book on her bed. This was crazy; she didn’t even like the guy so why was she writing about him?

“Supper Georgie!” she stood up at the sound of her grandma’s voice. “Okay I’m coming!” she shouted back as she walked to the door.

An awkward silence filled the room as they ate their meals of chili and cornbread and Georgie finally decided to break it. “This is excellent Grandma, I’ve missed your cooking.” Her grandma smiled up at her.

“Thank you sweetie.” She said.

“You know Georgie after the summer is over Dillon will be going to your school.” Felicia spoke up.

Georgie was forced to look in his direction, something she was avoiding doing up until now. He kept looking at her and it made her uncomfortable.

“Really?” she mumbled.

“I bet you’re pretty popular, maybe you can introduce me to some people?” Dillon smiled at her, holding his spoon up in front of him as he spoke.

“Uh not really, maybe Maxie would be better for that. My sister.” She widened her eyes at him as she figured he didn’t even know that there was a Maxie. She was sure he wouldn’t be looking at her if he did. Felicia frowned at Georgie, swallowing her food so that she could interject.

“You have a lot of friends, what are you talking about?” Georgie looked down awkwardly.

“I did, it’s different now mom.” She said.

“Do you have a boyfriend sweetie?” Georgie froze at her grandmother’s question. She felt her face heat up and was sure she was blushing.

“No.” her answer was rather somber.

It wasn’t like it was her choice, she had had a crush on Lucas for a year now, but that didn’t mean that the feelings were mutual, in fact she was sure that they weren’t.

“I’m sure boys will be lining up soon dear.” Her grandma patted her hand.

“Mom.” Felicia nudged her mother.

Georgie was ready to die; she shrunk down in her chair a little. She finally looked over at Dillon again, only to see him looking at her. He wasn’t grinning anymore, he just had a soft smile at the corners of his lips as he looked into her eyes.

“That was delicious Grandma but it’s been a long day, I think I’m going to go to bed now.” She got up and took her plate to the sink.

“Okay sweetie you get some rest, we’re going riding first thing tomorrow morning.” Her mother stood up and kissed her cheek.

“Goodnight.” Georgie smiled briefly at the table.

“See you tomorrow Georgie, sorry again for scaring you.” Dillon said quickly before she walked out. She nodded her head softly and continued on her way to her room.

MIGHT find him less annoying if I spend more time with him. Georgie finished her assessment of Dillon in her journal before getting in bed and turning off the light.
