CH 33
Gia tried to calm herself as she leaned against the wood island in the middle of
Sonny’s kitchen. She franticly wiped her eyes with ill efforts, as her tears
would only be replaced by fresh ones. She sighed when she heard the door open;
she looked over to see Sonny walking into the kitchen.
“Baby girl, are you OK?” Sonny asked as he made his way over to her.
“What, he just thinks he can come in and pretend like nothing ever happened
and that we’re all going to be one big happy family now?” Gia asked in
exasperation.
“Look we don’t know why he’s home, maybe he wants to try and get to know
you.” Sonny said as grabbed on to Gia’s hand and held it. Gia shook her head
sadly.
“Sonny, he left me here to get over my fathers death when I was 8 years old.
That’s when I needed him the most and he wasn’t here. What, he thinks a few
letters and phone calls along the years will somehow make him a good brother?”
Gia said as fresh tears began to rapidly fall from her eyes.
“But you had Juan growing up, and me. We took care of you as much as any
brother would have.” Sonny said. Gia nodded her head.
“I know Sonny and you know how much I love you, but it’s just not the same.
He didn’t even try to get along with my father.” Gia said.
“Gia that’s not true, you weren’t old enough to understand but I was. He
did try and so did Gary, they just didn’t get along.” Sonny said.
“But he had a sister, how could he abandon me?” Gia asked desperately.
“I don’t know baby girl but there’s only one way to find out and that’s
to ask.” Sonny said. Gia sighed as she leaned into Sonny, he held her as she
pulled herself together in his comforting arms.
“What’s this?” Sonny asked touching the small lump under her shirt.
Gia’s eyes widened as her mind raced at what to say.
“Oh it’s just my birthstone on a chain, you don’t remember mom giving it
to me last year for Christmas?” Gia said. Sonny looked a little embarrassed.
“Um no I don’t, sorry.” Sonny said. Gia smiled at him and shrugged. He
smiled back at her.
“What do you say we go eat? Mike and I worked hard on that food and we’re
going to eat it. You can sit next to me, far away from Marcus OK?” Sonny said
putting his arm around Gia’s shoulder. Gia nodded her head yes Sonny kissed
her cheek before guiding her into the room. She didn’t look at anyone as she
sat down began to eat her food.
Gia grudgingly listened to Marcus brag about his life as a cop and how great it
was. Her mother gushed over his every word and Gia was about the fling her rib
bone at them to shut them up. Marcus went on to explain how he was transferred
from the Brooklyn police department to the Port Charles police department and
notified everyone that he would be moving to PC.
Gia was unusually quiet all through dinner. Courtney noticed this and mouthed
something over to her. Gia squinted to see what she was trying to say. Sparky?
Was that what she was saying? Her eyes widened and Courtney smiled and nodded
her head. Gia looked at her confused, she had never said anything to Courtney
about her nickname. Courtney signaled her to fallow her out of the room. Gia
nodded and the two left the room. As soon as they entered Sonny’s living room,
Gia pressed Courtney for answers.
“Did you say Sparky?” She asked. Courtney nodded her head excitedly.
“What are you doing tomorrow?” Courtney asked. Gia looked at her as though
she had grown horns.
“What’s going on?” Gia asked.
“Just, what are you doing tomorrow?” Courtney repeated.
“Nothing!” Gia said in exasperation, confused by her friends’ behavior.
“What do you feel about getting married tomorrow?” Courtney asked an even
more confused Gia. Gia looked like she was going to scream in frustration so
Courtney grabbed her by the shoulders and looked into her eyes.
“Lucky just called me while you were in the kitchen and he said that Nikolas
wants to marry you tomorrow.” Courtney said.
“He does?” Was all Gia could say. Courtney laughed as she realized that Gia
must be in shock.
“Yes, we’re going to meet him outside of Kelly’s and he’s going to take
you to Nikolas. We’re going to be your witnesses.” Courtney said. Gia was
speechless.
“I’m getting married tomorrow.” Gia said in a whisper as tears filled her
eyes. All her worries about the night quickly faded away as she thought about
Nikolas. Tomorrow she would be his wife, and she couldn’t be happier.
