CH 2

Nikolas sat across from his brother, staring at him oddly, he couldn’t figure out why his brother was so anxious. “Lucky will you calm down and tell me what has you so excited?” Nik exclaimed across to him. “Gia is coming tomorrow!” Lucky said excitedly. Nik’s heart did a little flip at the sound of the name his brother just said. “Who?” He asked. “Nikolas, come on I know you’re a little bit out of touch but you don’t know who Gia is?” Lucky asked astounded at his brother. Nikolas felt his heart beat faster with every mention of that name. “I’m not sure.” He said. Lucky shook his head. “First of all, Gia Campbell is a world famous model, and she happens to be hired by our mother as the new Face Of Deception. Nikolas she is going to make our mother rich!” Lucky exclaimed. “Gia Campbell.” Nik repeated. He thought back to a time long ago, when he was a child. He thought of a beautiful little girl, with curly hair and brown eyes that sparkled when she laughed, his best friend. Her last name was not Campbell though, the last name Taggert came to mind when he thought of her. It was so long ago that he knew her; he had to think back to when he was very young. He thought of the ocean when he thought of her. “What?” Lucky asked, noting the unconscious smile that was on his brother’s face. Nikolas shook his head. “Nothing, it’s just I’ve never seen you like this before.” Nik said laughing as he shook his head sadly. Lucky glared at him. “Well you might be nervous too if you knew what she looked like. She’s a diva and I’m going to have to photograph her. Look at the latest issue of Cosmo and you’ll see, she’s gorgeous.” Lucky exclaimed. Nik laughed. “Don’t let Elizabeth hear you talking about her like that.” He said. Lucky laughed. “Yeah well we’ll see if you’ll be saying all this when you meet her.” Lucky said. “OK bro I have to go, good luck tomorrow, you don’t want to do anything dorky when you first meet her or anything.” Nik said standing up. Lucky glared at him. “Thanks that helps so much.” Lucky said sarcastically.

Nikolas got in his car and the minute he got in, he opened his glove compartment. He pulled out something that he always carried with him. He looked at the tiny bottle in his hand and smiled, remembering the girl who owned one identical to it. “Gia.” He said smiling. He started his car and drove off, never looking up to see the billboard next to him. If he had, he would have seen the beautiful picture of Gia smiling brightly at him.

Nikolas walked into his home, his cottage was very warm and inviting but it often felt empty when he walked in. Nikolas walked upstairs so that he could change into his riding clothes. He could use a refreshing ride on his horse Sheba, it would often clear his mind and that’s what he needed. He entered his bedroom and almost jumped out of his skin. “Kara.” He breathed. The woman sat up in his bed, she had obviously fallen asleep there. She ran her hands through her long curly hair and looked up at him, her blue eyes connecting with his. “Your uncle gave me the key.” She said stretching her arms out. “Yeah well he shouldn’t have. This is my home. What gives him the right to give someone my key? I want you out of my house now.” Nik said angrily. “Nikolas I’m your girlfriend, don’t say that to me.” Kara said as she stood up and ran her hands along his shoulders. Nikolas pulled them off and held her hands still. “You know that we were only together for publicity, so that the future prince would look good. Now I’ve told my uncle and you several times. I don’t love you. Just because you’re a powerful businesswoman and my uncle thinks you’ll make a good wife to me, it does not mean that we have any kind of a future. I don’t want to hurt you but if things do not sink into your head, I’m going to have to get mean. I don’t love you and I don’t want to be with you is the nicest way to put it.” Nik said, releasing her hands. Kara crossed her arms over her chest. “Fine! You know what Nikolas? You have fun dreaming of falling in love with the perfect woman. But I’m going to find myself someone rich to marry some day and years from now, we’ll see who has the better life.” She said turning around and seeing herself out.

Nikolas walked over to the phone and dialed his uncle’s number. The moment Stefan answered he began to speak. “Stay out of my business uncle or I just might not except my inheritance!” That was all he said before he slammed the phone down. Nikolas went to his closet to retrieve his riding clothes, when he was dressed; he reached up on the top shelf to get his helmet down. As he pulled it off the shelf, a box next to it came tumbling down to the floor. He quickly bent down, placing his helmet on the floor next to him and picking up the box, the contents were scattered everywhere. His hand landed on a wooden picture frame that was facing the ground. He picked it up and turned it over. He immediately sat down as he looked at it. He brought his hand up, his finger running along the image, the cheek of her face. “Gia.” He said her name, for the third time that day. He thought back to that time in his life. After she had left him, he was so lonely. She was his only childhood friend. He didn’t attend school and he was a very shy little boy. When he met her, she brought out his personality. She was the only one he showed it to. And when she wasn’t in his life anymore, he went right back to hiding it. He would never forget her. Whenever he was going through tough times in his life. Like meeting his mother for the first time, or dealing with his uncle, he would think about Gia, and how she would tell him to be tough and that he could do anything. Like she had so many times when they were kids. He would wonder where she was and what she was doing. He contemplated looking for her, knowing that she might live in Brooklyn but he never had the courage to. Thinking that she was a grown woman now, who had probably forgotten all about the little boy in Greece that she touched so deeply.
