Summary/Game timeline: After the Tuesday night game in Montreal in which
Glavine pitched what I described. And his parents were there, they always
come up when he pitches in Montreal. He loves it, too, he's awesome there.
I guess he likes to pitch when it's quiet...*eg*

"You want to come to dinner with us?"

"With your parents?" Maddux looked doubtful.

"You like my parents.

"That was before they knew you divorced your wife because of me."

"They've always liked you, too. They don't hold it against you, I promise."

"Yeah, but..."

"Greg, come on. I pitched a complete game shutout. Four hits. One walk. 99
pitches. You owe me."

Greg groaned, but his smile spread as he reached out for Glavine's
hand. "Yeah, yeah. Ok. If you promise to reward me for good behavior."

Tom squeezed his hand. "Ok."

"I didn't think you'd refuse."

"All right, they're waiting." The two of them left the locker room.

Greg hovered back as Glavine greeted his parents and they gushed over his
pitching performance, which, Greg had to admit, was quite
beautiful. "Greg, good to see you again."

Greg shook his hand. "You too, sir."

"Rough game last night?"

Greg winced internally, but managed a smile. "Hey, at least I didn't walk
anybody."

Mr. Glavine laughed. "True, true."

Dinner did go well. Tom's parents were nice, and they didn't mention anything,
even when Tom suggested the two of them would bring his kids up to visit
soon. And Maddux was good and didn't use the word 'dude' once.

Glavine smiled at him as he shut the hotel room door. "Thank you."

Maddux kissed him and stayed close. "You're welcome."

"Really, you kept me from a lecture on divorce and fatherhood and
homosexuality."

"And they could've killed two birds with one stone, too."

"They're too polite for that. And they don't hate me or anything. They just
don't really understand."

"I guess Tom Glavine's parents would be pretty conspicuous at a PFLAG meeting."

"Slightly."

Maddux sat down on the bed, still holding Tom's hand. "Didn't you say you'd
reward me for good behavior?"

Glavine raised his eyebrows. "Did I?"

"Yes. You did."

They smiled at each other. This lasted for several moments before Tom got fed
up, pushed him backwards, and kissed him. "I guess we can come up with
some reward."

Maddux sighed happily, pulling the lefty against him. "You did pitch so well
tonight. What'd you average, eleven pitches per inning?"

"99 in 9, so yeah."

"Beautiful," Maddux murmured.

"Thank you," he replied softly. "It means so much to have you say that."

"Why?"

"Because you're so damn good."

Maddux tightened his hold. "I love you."

"I love you, too."

"How 'bout that reward?"

Laughing, Tom gave him what he wanted.
