Summary: Cam has a confession.
"You're looking awfully glum," Cameron remarked as Zack let him into the
house. "What's up?"
"Sarah broke up with me," Zack replied, looking more depressed upon admission.
Cam frowned. "Where's Spence?"
Zack shrugged. "Probably off searching for the ghosts I told him were haunting
the science lab."
Cameron slung a friendly arm across his shoulders and led him towards Zack's
room. "Well, you'll have to tell me all about it, then. Come on."
Zack reluctantly followed, shutting the door, then sitting on his bed and
sighing heavily. "She didn't really have a reason. She just said we
weren'tmeshing."
"I'm sorry, Zack. I'd give you more advice if I could, but..."
"What are you talking about, Cam? You're the king of advice! The girls love
you!"
"I don't have a girlfriend, though, do I?" Cameron countered. "So it obviously
doesn't work very well."
"You could if you really wanted one," Zack replied, then sighed again. "I
guess a relationship really couldn't survive ghosts."
Cam muttered something unintelligible.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"No, really."
Cam winced. "What would you say if I told you that there was a reason I didn't
have a girlfriend?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well...I don't because I already really like someone, and if I were to date
someone else, it could completely screw my chances with this other
person..."
"I don't believe you, Cam!" Zack said, not really angry. "I break up with my
girlfriend and now YOU want love advice from ME! Oh, all right, who is
she?"
"Well...that's the thing. She's...not really...a girl."
Zack gaped at his friend a full minute. Cam squirmed anxiously. "Say
something, okay?"
"Are you coming out to me, Cameron?"
"Yeah...I guess I am." Cam looked down, and blinked quickly several times.
"Ok," Zack said carefully. "That's ok. You're ok," he said, more
forcefully. "It doesn't matter." Looking at Cam, he gave him a shy
grin. "So, who is it you have a crush on?"
Cam didn't look relieved. "That's the thing, uh, Zack. The person I like..."
He trailed off. "Ah, screw it," he muttered, then leaned forward and
kissed Zack quickly on the lips. He stared into his friend's eyes for a
moment then leaped to his feet and fled the room as if it were on fire.
The next day, Cam went out of his way to avoid both Zack and Spencer. Zack
didn't seek him out, and Cam figured he'd probably been disgusted. Zack'll
probably ignore me for the rest of my life, he thought gloomily. I'm sure
he hates me, now. He walked home with a heavy heart, and went straight to
his room upon reaching his destination. Sighing, he collapsed on his bed,
covering his eyes with both hands. And people wonder why we stay closeted!
Before he could delve any further into his thoughts, the doorbell rang. Cam
threw off his jacket and went to answer the door. Zack stood there,
looking at him. Cam couldn't read his expression, and quickly dropped his
gaze to the ground. "Oh. Hi. Come in, I guess."
Zack came in and went straight for Cam's room, leaving the other boy no choice
but to follow. "Cam, look-"
"I'm sorry," Cameron broke in. "I shouldn't have...I mean...I'm sorry."
"Don't interrupt!"
"Sorry," Cam muttered, looking down again.
"Anyway. I've been thinking...a lot, actually. About yesterday. You...you
surprised me, and confused me. I didn't know what I should be thinking -
well, I knew I should be mad at you, or disgusted, but I wasn't, not
really. And I came to a conclusion."
"What," Cam said, softly.
"That...there may be one relationship that could survive ghosts."
Cam looked up, his heart skipping a beat. "Zack...are you coming out to me?"
Zack grinned. "Yeah...I guess I am. And I have to tell you about this boy I
have a crush on."
Cameron took a step closer. "Oh really. Who might that be?"
"Shut up, you!"
Cam laughed, mainly in relief, and kissed Zack again on the lips, this time a
little longer. They parted, looking at each other, and laughed. "So...want
to rent a movie or something?"
"As long as no ghosts are involved," Zack said with a serious face, and they
both laughed again.
