SHAFT, Dr. Robert Colby
Shaftsburg
Age 65, died August 23, 1977. Born July 24, 1912 in Lansing. Dr. Shaft graduated from Kirksville Osteopathic College in
1936. Dr. Shaft was a practicing physician and surgeon in the Lansing area. He was one of the founders of the McLaughlin
Hospital, now Lansing General Hospital, and was the first Chief of Staff. He was a member of the Michigan Association of
Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and a Fellow and Life Member of the Vienna College of Surgeons. Dr. Shaft was a member
of the US Power Squadron and a past commander of the Lansing Power Squadron; member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, The
Detroit Navigator's Club, the Great Lakes Cruising Club, and the Mackinac Island Yacht Club. Survivors are two daughters,
Anne KASSEM of East Lansing, Theresa WAMPLER of Harleysville, Pa.; 4 grandchildren, 2 brothers, Burdette SHAFT of Leslie,
Richard SHAFT of Williamston, and an aunt Katheryn Z. BARNES of East Lansing. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10
A.M. at the Gorsline-Runciman East Chapel, East Lansing. Interment will be at Oak Plains Cemetery, Shaftsburg. Pallbearers
will be provided by the Lansing Power Squadron. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 P.M. Thursday. In lieu of
flowers, contributions may be made to the Rare Blood Disease Research in care of the Gorsline-Runciman East Chapel, 1730 E.
Grand River, East Lansing, 48823.
