LUDWICK, Gertrude D.

1620 Osband
Age 75, died Jan. 22, 1983. She was the daughter of Ray and Kathryn LUDWICK, born Jan. 29, 1907 in Springfield, Illinois. Miss Ludwick was born into a political family. Her grandfather, A.L.L. COVERT, was prominent in State Republican affairs. He was the first railroad agent in Leslie and was Leslie Township Clerk before being elected Ingham County Clerk in 1857 at the age of 26. Miss Ludwick started at the Clerk's office in Mason after graduating from Leslie High School in 1926. She worked in the Ingham County Clerk's office for 46 years, was deputy clerk for 20 years before retiring in 1972. She was also a past president of the Ingham County Employees Association and the Lansing Business and Professional Women's Club and member of the Citizen's District Council in Lansing. Miss Ludwick was perhaps busier after retirement than she was during her 46 years she served in the County Clerk's office. Foremost among her interest was love of Country and all-out effort to promote good government. More than merely flying the flag or wearing the colors, she preached patriotism. In later years, she had developed one of the finest flower gardens in the county. She loved the outdoors. Her acquaintances ranged from a group of neighborhood youngsters who visited her home regularly, to other neighbors, and friends from throughout her political life, as well as many nieces and nephews. No one could be any busier or have lived her life any fuller. Miss Ludwick is survived by 2 nieces, Mrs. George (Caroline) BAUER of Port Huron, Mrs. Davis (Margaret) DOOLITTLE of Mason; 3 nephews, Richard BROWN of The Woodlands, Texas, Jim BROWN of Okemos, Bill HAUN of East Lansing and many great nieces and nephews.
