Mr. Fay Lett died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, one day before his 91st birthday. He was born
June 4, 1907 in Dowagiac, MI to Gertrude and William LETT. His early years were spent in Mecosta
and the family moved to Lansing in 1918. Fay began Fay Lett & Sons Heating And Cooling in 1926
and was active in the business until 1998. "Quality is remembered long after the price is
forgotten" is the doctrine he subscribed to his entire business life. He was the recipient of
the Lansing Chamber of Commerce's "Minority Business Award", Negro Business and Professional
Women's Club's "Business Firm Achievement Award: and was recognized by the State of Michigan in
"Who's Who in Michigan." Fay was a past President and Chairperson of the Lansing Heating
Association. Fay Lett & Sons remains under family ownership into its third generation. He was
married to Rosetta SHADD for 73 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lois
METOYER; and brother, Richard LETTS. Survivors include: his wife, Rosetta; 3 children; son,
Gerald "Bill" LETT of Lansing; daughters, Patricia (Alvin) PICKET of Port Charlotte, FL and Betty
ANDERSON of Surprise, AZ; grandchildren, Marcus METOYER, Jr., Rosanna CRAWLEY, Deborah WALLACE,
Tricia AYERS, Fay and George PICKETT, AND Kim AGASVEERAN; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Naoma
LETTS REED; brother, Judge John LETTS; and several other relatives and friends. Friends may
visit Mr. Lett Sunday, June 7, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., at the Riley Funeral Home. Funeral services will
be held Monday, June 8, 11 a.m. at Trinity AME Church, 3500 W. Holmes Road, with Pastor Walter W.
Reid, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour before the funeral service. In
lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richard D. Letts Fund, Capital Region Community
Foundation, 300 N. Washington Square, Suite 104, Lansing, MI 48933.
