Local 'Seabee' Dies From Heart Attack
William Carl JACHALKE, 43, seaman first class, attached to the Seabees in the Pacific war theater, died, of a
heart attack November 26 and has been buried on Allied territory outside the United States, according to a telegram received
from the navy department by his widow, Mrs. Elsie Irene JACHALKE, 108 South Hosmer street. Mrs. Jachalke said the last
letter from her husband, written November 25, informed her he was ill and confined to sick bay for the first time since he
entered the service December 4, 1942. He has been serving outside the country for 21 months since March, 1943, after
completing his boot training at Camp Endicott, R.I.
Seaman Jachalke designated his last location as "Island X." He was employed by the Lansing division of Fisher
Body and Western Union here before the war. He was born in Lansing September 30, 1901, and attended the Lutheran school.
Besides the widow, he is survived by a son, Seaman Gerald William JACHALKE, now stationed in California; his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman JACHALKE, Dimondale, and four brothers, Herman Jr., and Harold of Dimondale, Carl of Lansing,
and Clarence of Ann Arbor.
Mrs. Jachalke is employed in the offices of the state liquor control commission.
