Miss Joanne HOWE Dies, Three Others Injured Near Leslie

LESLIE, July 25 - Miss Joanne Howe, 17, of Eaton Rapids, was killed and three
companions were seriously injured when a car in which they were riding overturned and struck a
tree at Territorial and Meridian rds. 2 1/2 miles south of Leslie Saturday at 11:10 p.m.
The car was driven by James Hedglen, 22, of Dansville, who suffered face cuts and
possible chest injuries. Bonnie Swan, 17, Kinneyville rd., Eaton Rapids, is in "critical"
condition with head injuries, fractured right arm and fractured right leg. Thomas Hunt, 19, of
812 S. Barnes, Mason, suffered a fractured left leg and face and arm cuts. All were taken to
Foote hospital in Jackson.
Loren Bates, Jackson county coroner, reported that he will confer with the
prosecuting attorney to determine whether to hold an inquest.
SERVICES TUESDAY
Services for Miss Howe will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Pettit funeral home,
Eaton Rapids. Rev. Floyd Robinson will officiate and burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery. She
is survived by the mother, Mrs. Gladys HINTON, Clarence HINTON, the stepfather; Raymond HOWE of
Eaton Rapids, a brother, and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James HOWE of Eaton Rapids.
