Death Ends Marriage of 63 Years

  Eaton Rapids, Aug. 17 - Death ended 63 years of marriage for Mr. and Mrs. James I. HOWE of Eaton Rapids Thursday.
  Mr. Howe, 85, died at the home, 514 S. River st., Tuesday evening after a long illness. He had lived in the same home for 52 years and had been a life long resident of the area.
  He was a retired stone mason.
  Surviving are the widow, Ada; six daughters, Mrs. Fern BALLINGER, Mrs. Hazel SHEADER, and Mrs. Gladys HINTON, all of Eaton Rapids; Mrs. Margaret PORTER and Mrs. Beatrice BRANDT, both of Detroit, and Mrs. Myrtle HILLIARD, Dimondale; four sons, Harry and Harold of Eaton Rapids; Arthur, Charlotte, and Henry of Lansing; 25 grandchildren, 33 great- grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
  Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the Skinner funeral home. Rev. Floyd Robinson of the First Baptist church officiating. Burial will be in the Rosehill cemetery.

James HOWE Passes at 85
Funeral Services Thursday For Retired Stone Mason Who Lived Here 53 Years

  James Howe, a resident of this area for all of his 85 years, died Tuesday, Aug. 16 at his residence, 514 S. River street, after a three-year illness. He had been a resident of Eaton Rapids for the past 53 years and had followed the stone mason's trade all his life until his retirement several years ago.
  Mr. and Mrs. Howe had been married 63 years. Friends and relatives including their ten children, honored them at an open house celebration at their residence on the occasion of their 60th anniversary in June of 1952.
  Funeral services for Mr. Howe will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, from the Skinner Funeral Home here, the Rev. Floyd Robinson officiating, with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.
  Mr. Howe was born Oct. 6, 1869, in Aurelius township. He and his wife, Ada, who survives, were married June 16, 1892, at the Baptist parsonage in Aurelius Center. They set up housekeeping in Aurelius but moved to Eaton Rapids 53 years ago.
  Also surviving six daughters: Mrs. Hazel SHEADER, Eaton Rapids; Mrs. Myrtle HILLIARD, Dimondale; Mrs. Fern BELLINGER, Eaton Rapids; Mrs. Beatrice BRANDT, Detroit; Mrs. Margaret PORTER, Detroit; and Mrs. Gladys HINTON, Eaton Rapids. Also, four sons: Harry of Eaton Rapids, Arthur of Charlotte, Harold of Eaton Rapids, and Henry of Lansing, 25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
  A granddaughter, Joanne HOWE, daughter of Mrs. HINTON, was killed in an automobile accident near Leslie last month.
