HOWE, Harold "Punk"
Eaton Rapids
Age 80, lifelong resident of Eaton Rapids, died unexpectedly Friday, March 2, 1990 at the
Eaton Rapids Community Hospital. Born in Eaton Rapids, November 16, 1909, the son of James and Ada
(HENRY) HOWE. Punk was retired from the City of Eaton Rapids Park Division and Webster Lumber
Company; also formerly employed by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission. He served in the
Michigan National Guard during the 1940s and was a life member of the Eaton Rapids Masonic Lodge
F. & A.M. #63. A graduate of Eaton Rapids High School, class of 1929, Harold was an outstanding
high school athlete and remained active in sports for over 55 years as a coach, referee and was
best known for his exceptional baseball and softball umpiring. He was preceded in death by his
eldest son, F. James HOWE of Jackson and daughter-in-law, Elinor HOWE in 1989. Surviving are his
wife of 57 years, Esther (DANA) of Eaton Rapids; two sons, Walter HOWE of Eaton Rapids and C.
William (Marie) HOWE of Mason; two daughters, Linda (Keith) PETTIFOR of Indianapolis, IN and Teri
HOWE of Eaton Rapids; brother, Harry (Joyce) HOWE; and sister, Margaret PORTER, both of Eaton
Rapids; 5 grandsons; 3 granddaughters; four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held
Tuesday, March 6 at 2 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Masonic memorial service
will be Monday evening, 6 p.m. Visitation will be Sunday and Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the
funeral Home. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Doug, Mike, Tim and Chris HOWE; nephew, George HOWE
and Tom BAKER. Honorary bearers are Richard Tottingham, Howdy Hillard, Stanley Smith, Robert
Zona, Duane Livingston, Murray Moore and Steve Fuller. For those desiring, memorial
contributions may be made to the Eaton Rapids Athletic Fund in memory of Harold "Punk" Howe;
envelopes available at the Funeral Home.
