Age 55, died Thursday, December 28, 1989 at a Jackson Hospital. Mr. Howe was a graduate of Eaton Rapids High School, class of 1952. He served in the U.S. Army of Occupation, 1955-1957 in Germany. He retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections in 1985. He is known for his portrayal of Santa Claus for over 25 years for numerous organizations in Eaton and Jackson County areas. A member of the Charlotte V.F.W. Post #2406, member of the Eaton Rapids Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. #63 and member of the Royal Order of Moose, #156 of Jackson. Surviving are his daughter, Penny Lynn HOWE of Douglas, MI; father and mother, Harold and Esther HOWE Eaton Rapids; 2 brothers, Walter of Eaton Rapids and C. William (Marie) of Mason; 2 sisters, Linda (Keith) PETTIFOR of Indianapolis, IN and Teri HOWE of Eaton Rapids; several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be Saturday, December 30, 4 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. For those wishing, a memorial contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation; envelopes available at the Funeral Home.

Frederick James HOWE

  Frederick James "Punk Jr." Howe, age 55, formerly of Eaton Rapids died Thursday, December 28, 1989 at a Jackson Hospital. He was born Eaton Rapids March 24, 1934 son of Harold and Esther (DANA) HOWE. Mr. Howe was retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections in Jackson. A graduate of Eaton Rapids High School in 1952 and a veteran of the Army from 1955-1957 serving Army of Occupation in Germany. Jim was a member of member of the Eaton Rapids Masonic Lodge F&AM 63, a life member of the VFW Post 2406 in Charlotte and the Royal Order of Moose Lodge, 156 of Jackson. Jim is best remembered for his portrayal of Santa Claus for the children of Eaton and Jackson County organizations for over 25 years.
  Surviving are his daughter, Penny Lynn HOWE of Douglas, MI; mother and father, Esther and Harold HOWE Eaton Rapids; 2 brothers, Walter HOWE of Eaton Rapids and C. William and wife Marie HOWE of Mason; 2 sisters, Linda and husband Keith PETTIFOR of Indianapolis, IN and Teri HOWE of Eaton Rapids; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
  Memorial services were held Sat., Dec. 30, 1989 at 4 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Mergener officiating. Interment of cremains followed in Rosehill Cemetery on the Walter Howe family plot, with a military graveside service conducted by the VFW Post 2406 of Charlotte. For those wishing, a memorial contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in memory of Jim, envelopes available at the funeral home.
