HOWE, Esther Linda (Dana)

Eaton Rapids, MI

On October 7, 2004, Surrounded by her loving family, the Matriarch of the Howe Family left us to join her beloved husband Harold; loving sons, Fredrick James HOWE and Walter Earl HOWE; daughter-in-law, Ellie HOWE; sisters, Vivian WARNACKE and Betty CHAMBERS, and her parents, all who have preceded her in death. Esther will be dearly missed by her daughters, Linda (Keith) PETTIFOR of Indianapolis, Indiana, Teri HOWE of Eaton Rapids and son, Bill (Marie) HOWE of Bath; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and friend, Esther took great pride in her family which spanned five generations during her lifetime. She was especially fond and grateful for the smiles that each generation of children brought to her face. They were always a source of joy and comfort to her. While her passing has created a significant emptiness in all of our hearts, in time, that emptiness will give way to the wealth of fond memories we all had of her. Born the daughter of Frederick and Marvel Elizabeth (WICKMAN) DANA on April 21, 1915 in Lansing, Michigan. Esther graduated from Eastern High School, Class of 1933. On April 29, 1933 she married the love of her life, Harold Howe. They were married for 57 years before his passing in 1990 and resided in Eaton Rapids all their lives. Esther was a life member of the Brookfield Order of the Eastern Star Lodge. During her life she was employed at the Horner Woolen Mills, Lansing Dual Therm, Davidson Woolen Mills, Eaton Rapids IGA, Webster Lumber and Coal Company, Rapids Lumber Company and Howe Distributing. Funeral services will be held at Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids on Monday, October 11, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. with interment following at the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. The Family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. with an O.E.S. Memorial Service at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday evening. Our Family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation for the excellent care Esther received at the Sparrow Hospital Neurological Intensive Care and Rehabilitation Units as well as the Sparrow Hospice House.
