Age 78. Died December 1, 1976 in Montcalm County. Born June 11, 1898 in Eaton Rapids. Mrs.
Ertell was the widow of John H. GARDNER and married Thornton ERTELL August 30, 1971. He died
November 18, 1973. Mrs. Ertell has resided the past 10 years with a daughter, Mrs. James NESS
of 3811 Homewood. Surviving are: 1 son, William GARDNER of Lakeview; 8 daughters, Esther FLOREY
of Eaton Rapids, Anna Belle NESS of Lansing, Belva FIDLER of St. Johns, Betty LADISKI of Ovid,
Geraldine FARRIER and Shirley TAYLOR both of Perrinton, Luella LEWIS of Bradington, Fla., and
Gladys CHURCH of Corunna; and was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice PURVIS in 1948; also
surviving are: 39 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers,
Leo TWICHELL of Lansing and Mervin TWICHELL of Lake Station, Mich.; 1 sister, Birdie LOTT of
Ellenton, Fla.; another brother, Crawford TWICHELL preceded her in death. Funeral services will
be Saturday 10 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Lansing Chapel with Williard Farrier, Pastor of the
Riley Bible Church officiating. Interment will be at the Dimondale Cemetery. Grandsons acting
as pallbearers are: Richard LADISKI, Ronald TWICHELL, Richard TAYLOR, Robert FARRIER, Rodney
WALLING, and Bill GARDNER.
