BUCK, Flora Etta
Holt
Age 89, died December 10, 1990. She was born September 30, 1901 on a farm near Okemos, the
daughter of John and Anna BENNETT. She was married to Arthur E. BUCK, Sr. of Holt, who passed
away in 1979. She is survived by her children, Walton BUCK of Lansing, Arleen ROBERTSON, Arthur
BUCK, Jr. and Howard BUCK, all of Holt, Peggy BYINGTON of Vermontville, and Jon BUCK of Sykesville, MD.
Flora Buck is also survived by 22 grandchildren; and 39 great grandchildren. Mrs. Buck has lived
for the past 55 years on the Buck family Centennial Farm near Holt. This farm was homesteaded by
the BUCK family, early Ingham County pioneers, nearly 150 years ago. She was a long standing
member of the Holt Garden Club and remained very active until her death. She will be remembered
for her many talents and abilities in arts, crafts, gardening, flower arrangements and Bonsai.
She has been an Instructor and judge at various Bonsai events throughout the area and has over 200
of the miniature trees. Flora Etta Buck was well recognized at the Ingham County Fair for many
years due to her winning hundred of first place ribbons for flower arrangements, crafts and
various farm entries. Funeral services will be held Friday, Decmeber 14, 1 p.m. at the
Gorsline-Runciman Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Ralph L. Tingley, Pastor of the Parker Memorial
Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mason. Friends may
call at the Chapel beginning Wednesday, 2 p.m. where the family will receive friends Wednesday and
Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Flora Etta BUCK, expert on bonsai

Flora Etta Buck, 89, noted for her ability to make things grow and for her
artistic talents, died Monday.
Funeral services will 1 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Lansing Chapel.
Buck has lived for 55 years on the Buck family Centennial Farm near Holt. The
farm was established by early Ingham County pioneers 150 years ago.
She was a consistent blue-ribbon winner at the Ingham County Fair with floral
arrangements, crafts and various farm entries. Buck's talent for creating bonsai trees has been
recognized. For years she was an instructor and judge at various Bonsai events and at the time of
her death had more than 200 of the miniature trees.
Buck was a longstanding member of the Holt Garden Club and remained active until
her death.
"When we were raised, my mother always competed in fairs with things from the
farm," said her son Arthur Jr. of Holt. "She always had a green thumb."
Born September 30, 1901, married Arthur E. BUCK, Sr. who preceded her in death in
1979.
Survivors include four sons, Walton of Lansing, Arthur Jr. and Howard of Holt,
and Jon of Sykesville, MD.; two daughters, Arleen ROBERTSON of Holt and Peggy BYINGTON of
Vermontville, 22 grandchildren; and 39 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the chapel from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and
Thursday.
