Michael BOYD, age 6, Killed on M-99 Highway Tuesday Afternoon
Area Boy Struck Down Attempting to Cross Busy Highway at 3:45
Michael Boyd, age six, son of Mr. and Mrs. James BOYD, of 11013 Dimondale hwy., R.F.D. No. 1, Dimondale was
struck down while crossing at the intersection of M-99, Bailey rd. and Dimondale hwy, shortly after leaving the Eaton Rapids
school bus, Tuesday afternoon at 3:45 o'clock.
Boy Attempted Crossing
Mr. Cecil M. Scolfield, of 221 East Brookfield dr., East Lansing, who was driving the southbound auto on
M-99 struck the boy and stated that the youth darted out onto the highway directly in front of him.
The Berl Field ambulance rushed the injured boy to Edward Sparrow hospital where he was pronounced dead
upon arrival.
The Eaton Rapids bus was making a U-turn on Bailey rd when the boy was hit.
Bus Law Questioned
Elwin Smith, County Sheriff and a number of the County deputies have launched an investigation into the
accident as to whether or not Scolfield was subject to the School Bus law requiring all motorists to stop for a bus
loading or unloading students or anyone in connection with a school activity. However the bus had turned off M-99 onto the
intersection of Bailey rd to drop Michael and some of the other regular passengers.
The main item of question is the way the bus was parked.
Following all investigation procedures the facts will be turned over to the Eaton County Prosecutor.
Michael is survived by the parents, Mr. and Mrs. James BOYD, one sister, Royce Ann and one brother, Mark
William; grandparents, Mrs. Ralph BOYD, of Kalamazoo; Mr. and Mrs. Royce GEISENHAFER, of Rt. 1, Dimondale and great-
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William GEISENFAFER, of Rt. 1, Dimondale.
Funeral services will be held from the Berl Field funeral home on Friday at 2 p.m. Rev. Harold McKinney, of
the First Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will be made in the Dimondale cemetery.

Rev. Harold McKinney of the First Presbyterian church in Dimondale officiating. Interment in Dimondale cemetery.
Pallbearers are Richard McBride, Robert Young, Keith Lundberg, Roland Dedafoe.
