W*ING 1992 Danger Zone Year In Review Commercial Tape

Length: 90 minutes

This tape focuses on highlights of the more important matches from the W*ING promotion during 1992. W*ING was like FMW in terms of its hardcore edge and brawling. Not all of the action on this tape is impressive, but the hardcore aspect of it as well as the wildness of the brawling were more unique and memorable for this time period, in which garbage wrestling had not aproached its peak in prominence. Thirteen matches air, all in highlight form, and most are from different cards.

Match 1: Mil Mascaras & The Iceman vs Mr. Pogo & Miguel Perez Jr. (12/91)
This wasn't good, but it was watchable since fans reacted to everything. Pogo was not good as expected, but so much better than he has been for the last five years. Mascaras pinned Perez after a flying bodypress in 14:40 (3:17 aired).

The next highlight saw Mitsuhiro Matsunaga leap onto the Headhunters from the balcony of Korakuen Hall. While not the most spectacular dive ever, it was arguable the most daring since it was done from an off-balance position.

Match 2 (Cage Match): Mr. Pogo vs Gypsy Joe (2/92)
This was a bad match, although there were many stiff shots with among other things a chair. Gypsy bled hardway from being ramed hard into the cage. Pogo won via KO when Gypsy couldn't answer the 10 count at 12:16 (2:49 aired).

Match 3 (Barbed Wire Baseball Bat Match): Mitsuhiro Matsunaga vs Mr. Pogo (3/8/92)
This match was bloody and bad since neither did much athletically. Pogo blew a fireball at Matsunaga setting his head on fire for a few seconds. Pogo won the match via KO in 11:51 (6:10 aired).

Match 4 (Scaffold Match): The Iceman vs Miguel Perez Jr. (3/13/92)
Although this wasn't good as expected, this was a better match than most scaffold matches, since the scaffold had railings that wrestlers could use for some of their moves. Iceman won the match at 9:43 (2:46 aired).

Match 5 (Caribbean Barbed Wire Match): Mr. Pogo & Super Invader vs Mitsuteru Tokuda & Yukihiro Kanemura (4/5/92)
This was a really good match in which everyone except Pogo looked fairly strong. Invader was the best of the four, including doing a splash off the top rope with his torso wrapped in barbed wire. He pinned Kanemura to win the match at 10:06 (3:35 aired).

Match 6 (Undertaker (Casket) Death Match): Mr. Pogo vs Jason The Terrible (5/7/92)
As expected, the match itself was bad. Pogo won the match and tried to set the casket on fire, but Matsunaga made the save and a WILD brawl ensued. Pogo won in 10:49 (4:57 aired).

Match 7 (Eight Man Elimination Match): Mr. Pogo, Super Invader & Headhunters vs Jason The Terrible, Mitsuteru Tokuda, Masaru Toi & Hiroshi Shimada (6/11/92)
You could be eliminated by all the conventional ways in addition to going over the top rope to the floor. This was easily the best match of the tape, with lots of fast action, good wrestling, and good near falls and heat. Tokuda eliminated Pogo over the top rope to win the match for his team in 20:48 (5:22 aired). ***+ (maybe even ****)

Match 8 (Fire Death Match): Mitsuhiro Matsunaga vs Mr. Pogo (8/2/92)
This was oe of the worst garbage matches you will ever see, mainly because of the fire surrounding the ring that restricted their movement. Matsunaga pinned Pogo to win the match. Afterward, manager Victor Quiones turned on Pogo, turning Pogo face. Time of the match was 16:00 (7:50 aired).

Match 9: Mitsuhiro Matsunaga & Mr. Pogo vs Headhunters (8/15/92)
This match wasn't good, but was passable thanks to the Headhunters, who could do moonsaults despite their 5'10" 350 lb frames. Headhunter A pinned Matsunaga to win the match at 10:39 (3:03 aired).

Match 10 (Falls Count Anywhere Match): Mr. Pogo vs Kim Duk (9/27/92)
Another subpar match, although the wildness and intensity made up for it. They brawled all over Korakuen Hall. Duk pinned Pogo in the bleachers in 9:45 (3:46 aired).

Match 11: Freddie Crougar vs Jason The Terrible (12/20/92)
Although this was not a good match athletically, it was wild and intense. Crougar pinned Jason to win the match. Afterward, the original Jason The Terrible attacked the new version and injured his arm with several chairshots. Time of the match was 8:06 (2:10 aired).

Match 12 (Cage Match): Mr. Pogo vs Kim Duk (12/20/92)
This was a bad match, period. Not much action to speak of other than some basic cage spots. Pogo won the match when he KOed Duk by choking him with a chain in 7:03 (3:52 aired).

Match 13 (Spike Nail Death Match): Mitsuhiro Matsunaga vs Leatherface (12/20/92)
Leatherface chainsawed Matsunaga in the head at the start of the match. The match itself was poor, with repeated teasing of one falling onto the beds of nails. Leatherface won the match when Matsunaga fell onto the beds of nails at 11:47 (6:08 aired).
