-The show opened with the tribute to Gorilla Monsoon that had aired on previous WWF shows since 10/7.
-Vince McMahon came out to start the show. After saying how great it felt to be in Atlanta (with an implied cut at WCW), he brought out Steve Austin. Austin briefly hyped his match with HHH at No Mercy on October 17, but then said he couldn't wait any longer and called out the WWF champion. HHH appeared at the entrance, and after exchanging dialogue with Austin, he came down to ringside and pushed announcer Jim Ross in a violent fashion. HHH turned his back, and JR retaliated by hitting him with a small electric fan. HHH turned his attention back to JR, but Austin intervened and had a heated exchange with HHH. Austin then told JR to enter the ring, and as Austin held HHH, JR punched the champ for a huge pop. Chyna ran in and attacked JR, but Austin grabbed her and KOed her. HHH then challenged Austin to team with JR and face he and Chyna later in the night. Austin accepted, and JR suddenly has an uneasy look on his face.
-Before the commercial, in the back they showed a cage full of bulldogs.
-After the commercial, they showed Mankind in the back waiting for the Rock to arrive. They then briefly recapped the rift within the "Rock n Sock" Connection.
-Match 1: New Age Outlaws vs Bob "Hardcore" and Crash Holly
This was a short match with not much good or bad about the content. Bad
Ass Billy Gunn pinned Crash after using his fameasser finisher. After
the bell, the Hollys attacked the Outlaws with their scale.
-In a backstage interview, Mankind first hyped his appearence in the show G vs E, and then stated that he was not regretful for accidentally hitting the Rock with a chair on Smackdown, saying that maybe he deserved it. Hilarious interview as usual from Mankind.
-Following a commercial, they again showed the dogs backstage.
-Match (and I use that term loosely) 2 (WWF Women's Championship):
Ivory vs Johnnie Mae Young
What a waste of time this was. Fabulous Moolah, who is probably in her
early 70's, "attacked" Ivory 30 seconds into the "match". Ivory won my
DQ. Thank God there was no real content in the match, as Young is in her
late 70's and, although she was legitimately the Chyna of the 1950's, she
can now barely move.
-Mankind was once again shown in the back waiting for The Rock. A live phone conversation between JR and The Rock took place. The Rock, who may be even more popular than Austin now, was hilarious as usual.
-Terry Taylor interviewed the British Bulldog, who denied knowledge pertaining to why the bulldogs were backstage.
-After showing the incident in which the British Bulldog hurled a trash can at Stephanie McMahon, a taped interview with her and Shane McMahon was shown. Stephanie said that she could not remember who Test was and the times they spent together.
-As Mankind continued to wait for The Rock, Bulldog and Val Venis attacked him.
-After a commercial, Mark Henry was seen arriving at the arena in a limo accompanied by his sex therapist (like I've said many times, this is wholesome family entertainment; more examples to follow).
-Match 3: Edge and Christian vs The New Brood (Matt and Jeff Hardy)
This was by far the best match of the show. Although lacking some of the
psychology and false finishes of their 10/7 Smackdown match, this match
was even more action-packed. All four wrestlers did dives, including
Jeff nearly killing himself on an Orihara moonsault attempt that almost
completely missed its target. The match was ruled a double countout.
Awful finish, but still an outstanding match. ***1/4 in about 4-5
minutes.
-Backstage, X-Pac ordered Kane to stay away from the ring for his match against Faarooq.
-Backstage, The Rock arrived in a limo to a huge pop. He was then interviewed. He declared the Rock n Sock Connection finished, hyped his No Mercy match against the British Bulldog, and stated that he brought the bulldogs to the arena. Mankind then confronted the Rock, but Vince McMahon interjected and stated that they would have to face Bulldog and Val Venis later in the show.
-Match 4: X-Pac vs Faarooq (w/Bradshaw)
This was a decent match with good stiffness. After X-Pac won with the
X-factor, Bradshaw ran in and the Acolytes double-teamed X-Pac until
Kane, after waiting on the ramp, finally made the save. X-Pac was
furious at Kane and even pushed him.
-The opening segment was recapped, and JR went to the back to prepare for his match.
-Mark Henry's second sex therapy session aired. The therapist told him that he would have to deal with "drastic overstimulation" later on.
-Match 5: Chris Jericho and Curtis Hughes vs The Headbangers
Both headbangers had locks of blond hair on their heads to make fun of
Jericho. Hughes hit Jericho by accident, and Jericho then turned against
him. The Headbangers executed a very sloppy version of their "stagedive"
on Hughes to win the match. Solid match except for the finish.
-D-Lo Brown and The Big Show were talking backstage. Big Show revealed that his father had terminal cancer, and D-Lo acted very sympathetic.
-The Rock told Mankind to take the dog feces, bring them to the ring, and stick the feces up Venis's and Bulldog's asses later on.
-Match 6 (Ho-jack Match): Godfather vs Mark Henry
This was hilarious, as the Godfather was accompanied by about three dozen
ho's who acted as lumberjacks. Mark Henry couldn't take his eyes off
them and enjoyed himself whenever he was thrown out of the ring.
Godfather won with a small package. The ho's came into the ring and
danced with the Godfather, and soon Henry joined them. The ho's then
ganged up on Mark Henry to his delight and the chagrin of his sex
therapist.
-HHH and Chyna were interviewed.
-Match 7: Big Bossman vs Big Show
This was a nothing match, and Bossman was DQed when he used his
nightstick. Al Snow made the save, but Bossman got the better of him
too.
-Mankind was shown in the dog cage gathering feces, and JR was shown taking to Austin.
-Match 8: Steve Austin and Jim Ross vs HHH and Chyna
This was a great match, with HHH vs Austin seeing the bulk of the
action. Chyna dominated JR. Austin and HHH had a great, high-energy
brawl through the arena. Back in the ring, Jeff Jarrett ran in and hit
Chyna with a toaster. Miss Kitty then came out with a laundry bin. They
put Chyna into the bin and wheeled her to the back, where they dumped the
bin off a loading dock. Another no-contest, but a very good match.
-A bloody Chyna was tended to in the back.
-Match 9: The Rock and Mankind vs The British Bulldog and Val Venis
This was generally an average match with some good flashes. Mankind
brought a tray of the feces to ringside. The Rock brought the feces into
the ring and gave Bulldog the rock bottom onto the tray for a huge pop.
Again, there was no decisive ending.
-HHH attacked Austin backstage, and they fought. To conclude the show, Austin locked HHH in a room with a rattlesnake.
-Overall a good show with some bad points but also some great ones. The lack of finishes hurt, but the workrate was better than usual. Good set-up of the No Mercy pay-per-view.
