WCW World Light Heavyweight Championship: Jushin Liger (champion) vs Brian Pillman (challenger) 2/29/92

This was a great match and one of the best matches in WCW history. Liger and Pillman were both at the peaks of their careers at this point in time. The two started out exchanging fluid moves and both dropkicked each other. Pillman briefly dominated Liger on the mat before stepping up his attack. After another exchange of moves, Liger gave Pillman a moonsault bodyblock for an early near fall. Liger went to apply the Romero special but Pillman escaped. Liger attempted to apply the hold again and this time was successful. Liger dropkicked Pillman in the corner. Pillman caught Liger with a crucifix for a near fall. Liger sunset flipped Pillman in impressive fashion for a near fall. Pillman missed a jumping knee in the corner and Liger went to work on Pillman's leg with a figure four leglock. Pillman gave Liger a tilt-a-whirl headscissors but was backdropped over the top rope to the floor. Liger hit a flip plancha on Pillman at ringside for a pop. Pillman gave Liger a springboard clothesline and then suplexed Liger over the top rope to the arena floor. Pillman then hit a plancha on Liger at ringside. Pillman dove at Liger off the ring apron but landed neck-first on the ringside barricade. Liger dove off the top rope but Pillman met him with a dropkick. Pillman went for a top rope dropkick but was met with a dropkick from Liger. Pillman gained a near fall with a powerslam. Liger then gained a near fall with a German suplex. Liger went for a superplex, but Pillman countered it and hit a flying bodypress for a great near fall. Liger gained a near fall with a powerbomb but Pillman surprised Liger with a huracanrana for a near fall. Liger gave Pillman a top rope superplex for a dramatic near fall. Liger missed a diving headbutt and Pillman used a rollup with a bridge to score the pin at 17:00 and regain the title. What they did was a bit simpler than what many lighter wrestlers do now, but the execution was super. ****3/4
