4/16/94 Super J Cup 1st Stage Final: Great Sasuke vs Chris Benoit
Fans went nute for Sasuke's entrance stemming from his previous upset of
Liger. This match was great- technically flawless, although not as
spectacular or as enthralling as the previous match. Benoit was great
early as most of the first half of the match consisted of mat wrestling.
Although that was Sasuke's weakness, especially when done for en extended
period of time, you couldn't tell that here. Ssauke did more of his
breathtaking flying here, including his tope con hilo. Benoit's flying
was just as spectacular, but in a different way. His top rope headbutt
and top rope suplexes were far simpler than Sasuke's moves, but nearly as
daring given how Benoit and Sasuke would land. Lots of great near falls
back and forth over tha last several minutes, ending when Benoit gave
Sasuke a back suplex off the top rope and pinned him in 18:46 to win the
match and the tournament. Five stars may be an overestimation, but they
were less than 5 minutes from that mark. In terms of style and quality,
this can best be described as a 90's version of Tiger Mask vs Dynamite
Kid. ****3/4
