Jushin Liger vs Naoki Sano 1/31/90

This was a super match, especially for its time, and was the best match these two had in their series of classic matches. Actually, this was one of the greatest wrestling matches ever at the time it took place. Sano offered a handshake but Liger slapped him to establish tension. Liger attacked Sano immediately with a slew of shodas and knocked him out of the ring. Liger gave Sano a Thesz press off the apron. Sano took the fight outside the ring and piledrove Liger on the floor. He tombstoned Liger in the ring and ripped his mask open. Sano whipped Liger into the ringside barricade several times. Liger used a rolling headscissors and a dropkick. He then hit a great somersault plancha on Sano knocking himself back onto the timekeeper's table. Liger used his Romero special briefly. Sano dominated Liger for a stretch and gained a near fall with a fisherman suplex. Sano gained a near fall with a German suplex and another with a dragon suplex. Liger lariated Sano to the floor but Sano came back with a lariat of his own for a near fall. Sano hit a dropkick in the corner. Liger gave Sano a tilt-a-whirl headscissors. Liger was bleeding by this point as Sano gave him a plancha. Liger countered Sano's top rope superplex attempt for a near fall. Sano countered a Liger bomb with a huracanrana for a near fall. Sano gained another near fall with a tiger suplex. Liger gained a near fall with a German suplex amidst great fan heat. Sano went for a huracanrana but Liger countered with a Liger bomb for a great near fall. Liger gave Sano a tombstone piledriver and then pinned him after a shooting star press. Great match with a super closing segment. Still, in modern times, this match would not hold up quite as well as it did being from around this time period. ****3/4
