EXTREME CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING TV
August 9, 1996
1. Axl Rotten vs D-Von Dudley
D-Von kept threatening Axl with a chair so Axl grabbed one from the crowd. Axl scored with the first chairshot and hit him with a second. Axl teased a third chairshot but D-Von gave him a low blow. D-Von then scored with a couple chairshots. The other Dudleys ran in and Buh Buh Ray hit D-Von with a chair. D-Von fought back with a low blow and hit Sign Guy and Chubby Dudley with a chair. D-Von won an exchange with Buh Buh Ray with another low blow and hit all three other Dudleys with a chair. Big Dick Dudley made his return and D-Von backed off. Buh Buh Ray then shocked everyone by diving over the top rope and taking out D-Von and Axl with a tope. I guess the match was a no contest after a minute or two. NR
2. ECW Title: Stevie Richards (defending for an "injured" Raven) w/Lori & Tyler Fullington, Blue Meanie & others vs Sandman
When Richards told Raven he would defend the title for him, Raven DDTd him and attacked him. Sandman cleared the ring and confronted Raven, who held Tyler in front of him. Richards Steviekicked Sandman for a quick near fall at the start. He attacked Sandman's previously "injured" eye (from a Raven attack earlier that night) with several cane shots and punches. Sandman fought back with a kick and caned Richards twice. He DDTd Richards for a near fall and threw him out of the ring. Sandman dropped Richards gut first across the barricade and hit a legdrop off the apron. A bloody Sandman hit a weak slingshot somersault senton (if you can even call it that) back into the ring for a near fall. Richards kicked Sandman low and hit him with the ECW title belt. Richards slammed Sandman. Meanie went for a moonsault but Sandman recovered, attacked Richards and Meanie ended up moonsaulting Richards not realizing what had happened behind him. Lame, but funny. Sandman then gained a heated near fall. Sandman missed a clothesline and Richards Steviekicked him for a near fall. Sandman kicked Meanie and mule kicked Richards in the crotch. Sandman whipped Richards into Meanie, who then gave Richards a tiger driver because he was "blinded" or something (was it the KISS makeup?) and Sandman gained a near fall. Sandman ducked and Super Nova hit a top rope legdrop on Richards after which Sandman gained another near fall. Sandman whipped Richards into the corner and gave him a couple chops. Sandman ran into a boot twice but gave Richards a clothesline, also taking out the ref in the process. Raven entered the ring but Missy Hyatt attacked Raven. Raven grabbed his reinforced boot and went to hit Sandman but Sandman ducked. Sandman DDTd Raven and went to cane him but Raven held Tyler in front of him as a shield again. Richards hit Sandman with the loaded boot and went to pin him but Raven threw Stevie off and pinned Sandman himself to retain the title in 7:12. As a standalone match, it wasn't that good, but it was entertaining from start to finish with lots happening. But as a title match, this was very cheap, not just with the champ not defending the title himself, but also with the screwy ending. A decent match ruined by bad booking. *1/4
3. ECW Tag Team Title 4-Way Dance: Eliminators (Saturn & Kronus) (c) vs Gangstas (New Jack & Mustafa) vs Bruise Brothers (Ron & Don Harris) vs Samoan Gangsta Party (Samu & Matty Smalls)
The Bruises stormed the ring and fought the Eliminators to start. Saturn sunset flipped one of the Harrises for a near fall but Saturn fought back and slammed him. Saturn hit a top rope headbutt on Ron (I think) from about 2/3 across the ring for a near fall. The Samoans entered next, still handcuffed from an earlier altercation but able to attack both teams nonetheless. The Gangstas came out a few seconds later with their trash can of weapons. Jack hit many opponents with the trash can as well as a trash can lid. Samu fought back with what looked like a baseball bat and attacked Jack with it. Kronus superkicked one of the Harrises at ringside while Saturn went after the other in the ring. Saturn hit a tope on one of the Bruises. Don rammed Saturn over the barricade and into the crowd. Mustafa hit Samu with a trash can while the Bruises and Eliminators fought in the crowd. Matty accidentally hit Samu with a chair when Mustafa moved and Mustafa knocked Matty out of the ring. Mustafa covered Samu for a near fall while Saturn high kicked Ron Harris at ringside. Mustafa booted Samu as Matty, still in handcuffs, attacked Saturn. Jack came off the top rope with a chairshot on Samu and pinned him for the first elimination. Don Harris clotheslined both Gangstas. Saturn dominated Jack as they brawled through the crowd. Jack attacked Saturn as their fight left the ECW Arena briefly. Kronus and Don Harris joined them in the fight outside the building. Saturn whipped Don onto a car, then jumped off the car with a clothesline as a car alarm was set off. Only in ECW lol. The fight returned to the building and eventually to ringside. Saturn went after Mustafa and one of the Harrises. The Bruise Bros. gave Saturn a double boot and one to Kronus as well. One of the Harrises kicked Mustafa but was then given total elimination and Saturn pinned him. Saturn and Kronus attacked the Gangstas and Kronus gave Mustafa a clothesline in the corner. Mustafa was thrown out of the ring. The Eliminators went for total elimination but Jack grabbed Saturn and Kronus caught his partner with a spin kick. Mustafa powerslammed Kronus and Jack came off the top rope with a chairshot for the pin at 11:02. Great on intensity and atmosphere for the most part, only so-so athletically. It was mostly a chaotic brawl without much rhyme or reason, but they kept it moving and fan heat was strong throughout. The right two teams were left in the end, but it's too bad they weren't given longer to go at it, thus cheapening the match a bit. I thought it was a little short and fell short of the hype the match had been given as the "first" 4-way dance (actually Douglas-Scorpio-Jericho-Pitbull 2 had taken place three weeks earlier). Some athleticism, but not much, so much of the value of this match comes in its chaotic atmosphere and intensity. **1/4
