While in Los Angeles Derek was trained in the Lucha Libre style and American style, spending many years in the Southern California and Tijauna portion of the world. After a couple years he was enjoying a small share of success and was sent on a tour of Japan. There he spent a couple more years in the juniorsentric indies of the country and slowly grew a following for his mixture of flashy entertainment gimmick and the stories he tells in the ring.
