| Bloodworth Valley is owned by Kent Fly and Dustin Graves. It was purchased for the sole reason of growing large bucks and huge Toms. Some management efforts have already started taking place. With guidelines to protect bucks that are less than 8 points, some anterless deer harvest, and small food plots that have been planted with Chicory. At the start of 2005 Bloodworth Valley will be getting timbered. Even though we hate to see the trees go, we know that it will only help the hunting opportunities. There are big plans for Bloodworth Valley, which include several warm and cold weather food plots and the regeneration of mast food crop trees. With a lot of effort and care we belive that Bloodworth Valley will become one of the best areas for hunting in Tennessee.
4/3/05 - Around 100 acres have already been cut. We started today marking off food plot areas to be bulldozed. We are having a TN Forrestry Agent to come by to discuse the plans for replanting and pond sites.
7/7/05 - We are closing in on 200 acres being cut now. But, there is still alot of timber. Alot of the hollows were to steep to cut, so there is still alot of cover. We have planted a few small food plots consisting of; sunflowers, corn, peanuts, and mixture called "Pea Patch". Sept. will be the next big planting time since the logger have to be out by Aug. 1. Oats, chicory, and clover will be the main seeds that will be planted. We will also begin making brush piles out of the left over tree tops. This will add more cover for wildlife.
11/10/05 - Our scouting has shown that the deer are starting to get back to normal after the cutting. Our trail camera's have gotten a lot of shots of does around our feeders, but no bucks until now. We found a group of scrapes about 50 yards from one of the feeders and placed a camera to see what was visiting and the shots below are what we found. We have also placed some mineral blocks out.
9/4/07 - We have lined up a bulldozer to clean out 2 food plots during September. One will be about 3 acres with a pond. The other is 3-4 acres around the fruit trees that have been planted. We are also getting some of our access roads repaired and cleaned up. The first week of October we will be planting the food plots along with more clean up. Things are definitely starting to take shape. |
