Name: Himura Kenshin (previously Shinta)
Series: Ruroni Kenshin
Age: 28
Distinguishing Features: Red hair, cross shaped scar (is this guy really Japanese?)
Quote: "A sword is a weapon. Swordsmanship is learning how to kill. Anyone who says otherwise is dreaming and has never stained their hands."

Oro? Kenshin is a story about a samurai (coincidently named Kenshin) who goes around fighting lots of people. Basically, when he was a young boy, he trained in the art of swordsmanship, learning the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu. Before he finished his training, however, revolution broke out, and he against his master's (Hiko Seijuro) wishes, he left to fight for the Ishin Shishi.

Kenshin got straight to work as the hitokiri (i think the dub said 'manslayer'), an assassain. He killed a lot of people, and got so good that he earned the name Battousai, meaning... I can't remember what it means off the top of my head. He gathered a bunch of enemies as the Hitokiri Battousai, and eventually, his superiors hid him, to try and protect him or something like that. The war ended while he was in hiding.

As it happens, Kenshin wants no part in the new era that he helped forge with his bloody sword. He vows to never kill again, and to protect everyone he can to atone for all the lives he took as the Hitokiri. Lucky for him, one of his war buddies is a famous sword maker who just happened to forge a non-killing wuss sword called the Sakabatou. The blade is on the back, so that it can be weilded without killing people. It's 'reverse-edged'.

Kenshin wanders off as a non-killing ruroni (apparently not even a real Japanese word), becoming weaker and weaker from his vow of non-killing ("we have to kill occasionally so our skills don't diminish") and eventually ends up in some town near Tokyo (maybe it is Tokyo!) where some fool is running around calling himself the Hitokiri Battousai and killing people. Well, of course, he meets up with a beautiful girl, and shows the fake Battousai what a real Hitokiri can do (Kenshin is weak compared to his comrades and opponents of the war. He's unbelievably strong compared to the Meiji weaklings).

Kenshin decides to stay in the town. He meets some new friends. He meets some old enemies. He has lots of fights. It's a good series.
