| ~*~Months Later~*~ Brooke walked down the streets of New York. It was mid November. Leaves were falling off trees and there was a soft breeze blowing her chestnut hair around. She pulled her coat tighter around herself as to not feel the cold air touching her warm body. She reached her destination: Starbucks Coffee. She had always loved coffee shops. Their aroma, their homey feeling. Brooke entered the coffee shop and stood in line. Finally she arrived at the front of the line. "Hey Brooke!" Lauren the young girl that worked at the coffee shop said. Brooke came almost everyday and by then she knew Lauren very well. "Hey Lauren, How are you?" "I'm good. What can I get for you today? The usual?" Lauren asked in her cheerful manner as usual. "Yes please." Brooke said. She waited for her coffee to arrived once the large 'Vendi' cup was in her hand she stepped outside. The cold New York air nipped her nose. The feeling was something she enjoyed. It was Saturday. That meant she didn't have to work. She walked quietly down the street to a park. Brooke quietly sat down on one of the benches. She took a sip of her coffee and watched people walk by. There were couple of young adults, teenagers and seniors, There were the parents holding this children's hands, or pushing strollers. All of the people that walked by, as different as they were, had one feature similar to the other. That was they all had happy smiles on their faces. "Brooke?" Someone asked from behind her. Brooke turned around and was met by a pair of strong brown eyes. They were very familiar. "Is that you?" "Chris, Hey!" She said completely shocked. It had been months since she had seen him and it felt good to be near him. "Hey, how've you been?" He asked and sat down on the bench next to her. "Uh good." She said reassuringly. "That's great!" He said in his usual perky self. "How is everyone?" Brooke asked eagerly. "Good. Everyone's good. JC and Jill are engaged. Sade's pregnant. Everyone's good." Chris said. "Wow, Sade's pregnant! That's wonderful." Brooke said with a tiny hint of sadness in her voice. The sadness was caused by the thought of not being able to see people she considered her friends in their moments of happiness. "Yeah. So what about you? You good?" Chris asked. "Yeah, I've been working. Like always." Brooke said and looked down at her drink. "What about you?" "Working too. I've missed you." He said. Brooke quietly looked up at him. Brooke laughed lightly. "What so funny?" He asked. "Nothing, it's just. I wonder everyday what would have happened if I hadn't taken that assignment. Or if I would have stayed." Brooke smiled. "I think if you didn't take that assignment we would all be dead and if you had stayed we might be together now." Chris smiled. "So uh who's your manager now?" Brooke asked changing the subject. "Katie, actually. Jill helps her a lot. But Katie went to college for that kind of thing so she knows what she's doing. She's young but she isn't stupid and she won't turn psycho killer on us at least I don't think so." Chris laughed. "That's good. I think that's good." Brooke smiled. They sat in a silence just looking at each other. Brooke yearned for his touch. She would give anything to go back in time to be able to be in his arms and have him kiss her forehead like he always did. "Would you like to come to dinner tonight?" Chris asked. "We're all going, and it would be nice if you could come." "Umm... I don't know. I don't want to intrude." "You won't." Chris said. "Please" Chris said giving her the puppy dog face, which never actually worked for him but he tried anyway. Brooke just laughed. "Alright. Where?" "We're staying at the Manhattan Hyatt." Chris said. "So if you wanna drop by about 6ish that would be good." Chris smiled. "I'll be there." Brooke smiled. "I have to go. I'm supposed to meet my friend in half an hour." "Ok I'll see you later." Chris said and they both stood up. "Bye" Brooke said. Before she could move he pulled her in for a tight hug. "It was good seeing you." Chris said as he held her. Brooke breathed in his smell which became familiar once again. They finally pulled apart. "I'll see you later." Brooke said and walked away. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brooke nervously made her way through the crowds of people in front of the hotel. Finally after much pushing and shoving she made her way through the large glass doors of the hotel. Brooke walked over to the front desk. "Hello, mam, how can I help you?" a young guy at the front desk asked. "Yeah, I'm here to visit someone." Brooke said. "Who would the guest be?" The guy asked politely. "The rat pack." Brooke said quietly knowing their code name. "Top Floor" He said with a playful grin. "Thank you." Brooke said and walked to the elevator. She entered the elevator and pushed the button for the top floor. Her anticipation caused the ride up to feel like an eternity. Finally there was a chime and the door opened. She walked out on to the hall way unsure of where to go. "Brooke!" She heard a masculine voice yell. Brooke turned around to find JC standing at the end of the hall. She smiled and began to walk over to him. "Hey" He said and pulled her in for a friendly hug. "How are you?" She asked. "Good, come in we're all in here." JC said referring to the room to the right of them. They walked in the room and Brooke saw Lance, Joey, Alexis, Justin, and Chris sitting around. "Hi everyone." Brooke said half shyly. A chorus of 'hellos', 'heys' and a 'howdy' came from the people sitting around. She greeted everyone with a hug. Lance's bitterness toward her seemed to have subsided. "Where's everyone else?" She asked referring to Sade, Jill and Katie. "They're getting ready." Justin replied. "They're in there if you wanna go say hi." "Uh ok." She said and walked into the room. Brooke walked in to see the three girls doing their hair and make up. "Hey" Brooke said to get their attention. "Oh my! Ri- Brooke! Hey!" Jill said and ran over to give her a hug. "Hey" Brooke said with a smile. Just then a very pregnant Sade came over and hugged Brooke. Katie soon followed. "Wow, you look great. We've missed you in our posse." Katie said with a laugh. "Yeah, wow you guys look great too. Sade! Ahh! You're pregnant!" Brooke said enthusiastically. "Yeah" She said with a proud smile. "Is everyone ready?" Jill asked. "Yes" Katie and Sade replied. "Let's go them!" Jill said and pulled Brooke along with her. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- They all went to dinner. They spent the night catching up and chatting about everything and anything. It felt good to be around a group of people she felt so comfortable with. Later that night they returned to the hotel. Everyone was very tired. Although they didn't have a show that night it was rest night, so inevitably they would be exhausted. Brooke said "Good night and Good bye" to everyone. Once everyone was in their rooms her and Chris were left in an awkward silence. "So..." Chris said. "Yeah" Brooke said not knowing the right thing to say. "Will you go somewhere with me?" He asked. "Uh yeah, ok." Brooke said. Chris took her hand and let her down the hall to some stairs which led to a door. They walked up the steps and through the door until they were on the room. The stars were glistening and the sound of taxis on the street sounded wildly. It was like something out of a movie. Completely unreal. "Wow this is familiar." Brooke said with a small laugh. "Yeah" Chris said. They walked to the edge of the building and leaned on the cement wall, and were caught in another silence. "I've missed you." He said breaking their uncomfortable quiet. "Did you?" She asked. "Yeah. I just have one question." Chris said. "What?" "Throughout the time that we were together. When you were here. Did you... Were you ever... did you ever really love me? Or was it all an act?" Chris asked nervously. "I honestly loved you." Brooke said after a moment of thought. "Then why did you leave?" Chris asked. "Chris... we've been over this. It wouldn't work. You live in Florida and you are always gone and me well I don't even want to start on me. It wouldn't work." Brooke said. "Wouldn't you wanna try it?" He asked. "I... I... I don't know." Brooke said honestly. "What if I told you I still love you?" Chris said. Brooke stared at him blankly. "Would you love me back and want us to be together?" Brooke continued to stare at him. "Brooke?" He said. "Yes." She said after she cleared her throat. "I love you." He said. Brooke didn't know what to say. Her emotions were running wild as he slowly leaned closer to her. Their lips slowly touched. A wave of electricity shot through her as if it were the first time their lips had ever touched. "I want you to know that I want to get to know you better. I didn't fall for your looks, well not totally, I want to know you better." Chris said with a laugh. "I love you." Brooke said finally. "So does that mean we're giving this a try?" Chris asked cocking an eyebrow. "Yeah, that is if you're willing to put up with me." Brooke said with a grin. "I guess I'll just have to deal with it." Chris laughed and kissed her. |
