New
Puppy Owner Tips!

This is my new Pug puppy at 4 months old!

"Tips to having a happy, healthy puppy!"
*Choosing A Name* What is so important about a name, well first of all
it gets your puppies attention. So if you are going to train your puppy it will
know when you want them to do something. It will also tell your puppy that when
you say their name and in a nice voice that they did something right. When you
choose a name it gives you control over your puppy because most dogs will come
when you call their name. A name is very important when you get your new puppy
it is the very first thing you should do.
*Play Time* Your new puppy will also want to play a lot and that
also might mean that they may nip at you to get you to play with them. When they
do this don't play with them because that is telling them that when they nip at
you, you will play with them. Make sure that if they are doing something that
you don’t want them to do, correct them and give them a toy as something they
can play with. This can be anything from starting to play or even to some
picking them up is a reward, so be careful.
It's play time!
*Dinner Time* Your new puppy also
needs to be fed the right diet. The first thing that you will need to do is to
find one place where you want your puppy to eat. Then when you are going to feed
him/her bring them to that place so that when they get hungry they know to go
there to eat. Puppies usually eat about three times a day. Plus make sure with
the breeder or with a veterinarian how much they should eat at each mealtime.
*Paper Training* Here are some tips to help you to paper
train/house break your new puppy. First of all your new puppy needs to know
where their spot to go is. It is just like when we are getting toilet trained we
know to go to the bathroom and they know to go on the paper and lets say in the
dining room. Some tips to help do this, is whenever your puppy starts to sniff
around take him/her to the paper and say go potty or potty. Whenever you do this
keep the words the same because then they will know when you say those words
that they have to go to the bathroom. After they start to run to the paper and
go on it, move the paper closer to where you want them to go and then gradually
they will get closer to where you want them to go out. Then you can show them to
go to the door/outside.
It's time to go potty!
*Training/Tricks* First of all you will
need to start off your new puppy as early as possible. When you get your new
puppy you can start teaching them tricks as early as seven weeks of age.
Remember that they are young and they have short attention spans. Only work with
them for about ten to fifteen minutes at each training session and about two to
three times a day. Believe me, they are very quick learners, you will be
surprised at how fast they will pick up on a trick.
*Nap Time* Your new puppy will also take a lot of naps during
the day. Your new puppy will take about four naps a day. They will take a nap
after they eat breakfast or lets say about 8:00am, then at about 12:00pm,
3:00pm, and then they will take their last nap at about 6:00pm. When they are
napping don't wake them up because the reason for the naps is that it will help
them to grow up strong and healthy. So when they are sleeping just let them go.
Plus it will give you a break from their wild playing.
It's time to take a nap!
* I hope that this information helps you to bring up your new puppy right and that you will have many years of happiness with them. Have fun and remember these things and you will bring up a great puppy/dog! *
