Christmas is the time of the year that Steve and Danielle love most..Every year, their mom, Georgia, makes her famous Christmas Cookies and when Danielle has time, she likes to help. (Steve is the taste tester I think.) When Danielle was a little bit of a kid, her mom would get her up early before school to help stir the batter and bake a few batches before school. One day, Danielle was kind of tired at school and the teacher asked her why. Danielle said Cause my mom got me up early to make Christmas cookies. Georgia was quite embarrassed |

Georgia and Danielle crank out 400 dozen cookies!!! That's 1800 cookies!!! Boxes are taken to the Detroit Skating Club where everyone pitches in to help eat them. Did you ever wonder why the National competition is held in February? It's because everyone has to work off all those cookies! |

We thought it would be fun to find out all we could about Steve and Danielle's costumes. So we asked |
|
|
|
Prior to the 1999-2000 season, their coaches and Linda Johns would select the costume style and fabrics and arrange to have them made. At this time, Jason Dungjen and Yuka Sato are the costume consultants. First, they discuss the programs with a costume designer who then submitts drawings. Yuka then helps them choose the fabrics. The measurements, drawings and fabrics are sent to their seamstress.After many fittings and adjustments, the costumes are ready. |

While busy fingers are basting and sewing, Danielle takes fabric samples to makeup consultants Maxx, at The Somerset Collection in Troy, Michigan, where the artists there coordinates two sets of makeup for her; one set for each of her costumes. Danielle applies her own makeup. (She had it done before by professionals at other competitions but prefers to do it herself. She also does her own hair. Steve also applies his own makeup, using only foundation base and occasionally some blush, and powder to set. He really doesn't like to wear the makeup but must for TV. |

In our research, we were shown some beautiful green velvet costumes that were designed for their Planets program. Because green was considered an unlucky color, it was suggested that they change their costume to another color and design. They also showed us a lovely copper colored costume that they used at Skate America for the 1998-1999 season for their short program (Piano et Voix Rhythmique). Again, it was suggested that another design might be better suited for them for the rest of the season. We understand that judges, when reviewing the skaters at their home rinks even before the competitions begin, make suggestions to the coaches and skaters regarding their programs and choice of costumes. We have all seen costumes evolve from the beginning of the season up until the final competition of the year. Imagine how expensive this gets to be. |
