I recently received this email about immigration...

I think you might enjoy this.

This says it all!

After hearing that the state of Florida changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's license with her face covered, this is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please!

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

“In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle.

Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

If you agree -- pass this along; if you don't agree -- delete it!

AMEN

If we all keep passing this to our friends it will also get back to the complainers, and help inspire others to preserve our society as we know it,
lets all try, please

OUR AMERICAN CULTURE RESTS SOLELY WITHIN THE PEOPLE THAT IMMIGRATE HERE!

There is no “American Culture” seeing as most of the people of The United States are descendants of immigrants, American culture is not something that is set in stone, but some thing that changes for every one. Irish Americans, German Americans, African Americans, Latin Americans, Chinese Americans, no matter their ethnicity as soon as they step in the boundaries they become AMERICANS, they do not have to change anything to be an American. After all do you refer to yourself as Irish American or German American, no you are simply American. Still each of us celebrates our own ancestry and own unique cultures. When our ancestors came they brought their own culture and tradition with them. The Native Americans did not make the Irish, English, German, or French speak Navajo or Ojibwa. These cultures should have meshed together, but instead one killed the other out. If any one was ever guilty of “diluting...national identity” it would have been our ancestors, who were guilty of obliterating almost the entire Native American culture.

Americans need to open their eyes to the truth about what it really means to be American...I take that back...no not what it means to be an American, but what it means to be a global citizen. It is essential to be a global citizen now. I say love not only your country LOVE YOUR WORLD! LOVE AND ACCEPT ALL OF THE PEOPLE IN IT! Accept their language, beliefs, traditions, and ideas. Accept diversity. The world depends on it.

“We really don’t care how you did things where you came from”

Only the ignorant would hold an idea such as this. The man who wrote this editorial needs to be filled in. Ideas like these are what is killing America, and are what is tearing the world apart. Why do you think the rest of the world hate us? It is due to the fact that Americans have developed extreme ethnocentricity. For some reason Americans believe the world centers around them.

“We are happy with our culture and we have no desire to change”

Speak for yourself! If you believe for one second that our culture is not in desperate need of change, then take some time and reevaluate this entire situation. Change is inevitable; we will always have to change. Everyone will always have to change. Certainly Immigrants have to adapt, but how do you purpose that America will ever be a success story if American citizens are unwilling to adapt to the presence of immigrants.

“Our country, Our land, Our lifestyle.”

Certainly it is our country, but it is theirs too when they are citizens, they are just the same as any other American. To think that any one people owns the land is absurd. Take a look at this from a global perspective all of the people of the world own the entire world, it is everyone’s. I don’t recall any of the Immigrants ever asking the American people to give up their lifestyle.

AND I HIGHLY REFUTE THAT ANY OF US ARE “Complaining, whining, and griping.”

As a citizen of this world we are entitled to our rights to question and criticize, what may be an annoyance to some people is a very relevant point to be brought up by others. Think of what would become of a nation where all citizens sat idly by while decisions were made for them instead of by them

I am an American and I am not at all happy with the way we have handled our “Patriotism.” Personally I have found patriotism recently only to be an excuse to be a racist and to wage unjustified warfare. I am not happy with the way Americans act. I am not happy that most people from other countries would despise me because I am an American. I would like to know and accept all cultures of the world, their languages, and their beliefs. I would like to break from the stereotype of being a close minded American. If you have any respect for the citizens of this world I would suggest you do the same.

ALL THE WORLD NEEDS IS A LITTLE MORE UNDERSTANDING
