The Packaging
of
PEZ Dispensers
Unfortunately, PEZ dispensers are not produced in Traun, so I could not see the birth of any dispensers.  They are produced in other countries, such as Hungary and Slovenia, and shipped to the factory in Traun where they are packaged with PEZ candy.  Here you can see that process.
From left are Gerhard, Philipp and Silvia in front of the display of current PEZ inside the part of the factory where the dispensers are packaged.
Here's a bit of a closer look at the displays.  photos courtesy of Silvia Biermayr
Above are Peanuts dispensers being placed into bubble cards by hand!
This machine (left) is dropping Peanuts cards down onto the backs of the bubbles.
To the right are the carded Peanuts PEZ on their way down the line to be boxed  up for shipment.
Left: workers putting Peanuts PEZ on the assembly line to be packaged on the shrink-wrapped or "skin" cards.
Right: this machine is scooping up lemon PEZ to be packaged on cards with dispensers.

This candy is ready to be carded with dispensers.  All candy that is to be carded gets scanned to make sure it is facing the right direction, and if it is not, the machine flips it over or turns it so it is facing the right direction.  Talk about quality control!
These Peanuts PEZ are on their way through the shrink wrapping machine.  They've already been wrapped, now the cards just need to be cut apart, which is the next step.
To the left is Philipp in front of a giant bag of PEZ that's about to be carded.
And this is me and my mom next to that same giant bag of PEZ (right). photo courtesy of Silvia Biermayr.
To the left are Peanuts PEZ that are all packaged and ready to go being boxed by hand for shipment.  Apparently PEZ, Inc. attempted automating this process, but the results were not as good as hand labor.

Right: these PEZ didn't make it past the hand workers.  Isn't it amazing how many errors still make it out of the factory?
Here go the Simpsons to be carded!
