August 16, 2002*
*Sonic Youth is my favorite band, and has been since 1994 when I was just a wee high school freshman.  The first of their songs I heard were "Youth Against Fascism" and "Bull in the Heather" and I've been hooked since.  The first time I saw them in concert was in 2000 after "nyc ghosts and flowers" came out.
Lee Ranaldo reading from his "Morrocan Journal:  Jajouka Excerpt"
Thurston Moore reading from "alabama wildman"
That's me with Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo...I felt like such a geek asking for a picture, but I couldn't resist!
There I am with Jim O'Rourke.  Kim Gordon was also in the store and I got to speak with her, too, but I was way too nervous to ask her for a picture.
By my estimate, only around 40 people were at this reading.  The reading itself was excellent, I think it lasted around 30 minutes.  Lee started off by reading from "Morrocan Journal" and Thurston read from "alabama wildman" and his new volume of poetry "Fuck a hippie...but be a punk".  Afterward books and a CD or two by Thurston and Lee were for sale and they were available to sign them, and Jim O'Rourke and Kim Gordon were browsing around the store.  John Sinclair also showed up!

I personally was on the verge of a freak out from the time they all walked in the store.  I felt as if I was incoherent when I actually got to speak with them...when my friends and I left the store, my heart was racing and I felt spent!  And at 2:00!  I still had the concert to go to at 8:00!
What a day...
