Alkaline Trio Guitar tabs

Matt Skiba

Before he formed Alkaline Trio, Matt Skiba had been a drummer and had never picked up a guitar in his life. Luckily for us though, he did pick up a guitar and formed the Trio originally with Glen Porter on drums and Rob Doran on bass. Doran eventually made way for Dan Adriano. As well as playing bass, Adriano plays acoustic guitar on a couple of songs. Porter played on the albums Goddamnit and Maybe I'll Catch Fire before making way for Mike Felumlee whose only Trio outing was on From Here To Infirmary and The Metro. He dropped out because he didn't want to tour. His replacement was Derek Grant who played on what some consider to be Alkaline Trio's best, and darkest, offerings to date, the split with Hot Water Music and Good Mourning.

Matt Skiba has a GPC signature guitar, which he can be seen playing in the video for We've Had Enough, but has used a Fender Stratocaster in the past, which he said he liked because it sounded "big", just like a Gibson. Matt's favourite guitars, however, are Gibson Les Pauls, particularly Goldtops, he attributes this to their big, bright sound and his liking of Social Distortion and Mike Ness.
