Jan. 12 Show...Suite 13
w/ Kill Hannah and Marvelkind
Sorry to the people looking for some pictures from this show, I would have some but there was a mix up with The Rave webmaster and I. I e-mailed him to see if cameras were allowed in The Rave, and apparently he thought that i meant "The Rave" concert hall not The Rave building so he said no, only with an authorized pass from the band or the band's record label so I didn't bring the camera along. Turns out that cameras are allowed in The Rave Bar. Go figure. I know, I'm very disappointed too, but I hope you will all forgive and forget. To compensate for the lack of a camera, we added a new element to our concert reviews, the interview. In this issue, Kill Hannah members Greg and Mat were nice enough to answer a few questions for us. Johnny is working on that and will be in a separate story.
We were a little late to the concert after we made a "short" break at the Mequon McDonald's so we apparently didn't get to see Marvelkind, who was either done or they never showed up because Kill Hannah's set was already set up when we arrived. We sat around for a while taking in the sites of the small but perfect for small shows Rave Bar. Kill Hannah went on around 8:45 and immediately had everyone in the place wrapped around their fingers. They played a wide arrangement of songs and showed lots of enthusiasm and chemistry. Bassist Greg Corner looked like he were going to jump off stage numerous times. Vocalist Mat Devine added a comical edge to their performance stating that the crowd "stared too much" at a pause between songs. He even acted like one of those blinking "applause" signs at times clapping himself as if to tell us to clap. They played their hit songs "I Wanna be a Kennedy" and "Sick Boy" but did not, to our dismay, play "Get Famous." But we were still very pleased with their performance, especially since they rocked.
The review of Suite 13 is going to be quite short since they were more of a heavy metal band than a punk or a hardcore band. They really sounded like Dope or Disturbed which wasn't to our best liking. A lot of the crowd seemed to be there to see Suite 13 because they were, of course, the headliner and they were out of Milwaukee. They played their best song "Sex Fiend" prior to our departing which was performed very nicely. We left around 11:00 because we were disappointed in Suite 13. We did not leave empty handed as most of us did buy some sort of Kill Hannah merchandise and we were very pleased with the show.
