Why do you call this site PunkRawkBible? Isn't that a double standard?

We've actually gotten a lot of opposition about the name of our site. You're not the first, and I guarantee you won't be the last. I came up with the name partly because I like being confronted, but also because one of the strongest beliefs of the "punk movement," if I can call it that, is the opposition of mainstream ideas.

The view of most people about Christianity is that it is all about a strict set of rules and regulations that a person is supposed to follow in order to lead "a good life." However, I have never actually found a good, solid biblical foundation for this. What I have found is that Christianity is supposed to be about freedom. Not a license to do wrong, but freedom to be able to make mistakes and still be okay with God. It is abundantly clear that mankind can never do anything worthy of reaching God. That is what is supposed to make Christianity so special. That even though we totally don't deserve it and can't achieve it, God has provided a way for us to have hope, to have freedom, to really change if we really want to.

The way out is simple: belief that God sent His son, Jesus Christ to die as a replacement for us. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. It's that simple, and for a long time, it was way too simple for me to believe, and way too simple for a lot of people, but it really is.

That's why I came up with the oxymoron title of PunkRawkBible because I hate tradition because tradition can get you no where. Tradition teaches all of those things that you are talking about (the strict set of rules, etc.), and that's our rebellion: making the good news of Jesus Christ attainable for all people regardless of how they look, how they act, or what they believe Christianity to be because of what they've been taught or how Christians have treated them in the past. We're not in the condemning business, we're in the accepting business.
