SKY-PIRATES OF KALIK
The Sky-Pirates of Kalik are interplanetary raiders of the most savage sort. Led by the ruthless Captain Stag, they swoop down on their victims with a combination of small attack JetPods and larger AirCorvettes. Occaisionally, a small body of pirates will be dropped off on the ground, supporting the main force and keeping up by means of jetpacks. Stronghold: Intraorbital landing craft.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
This started as a discussion at the HOTT list abot an all-aerial army. If I recall, he guy who originally posted it was of the opinion "Hey, I can spring this on an unsuspecting opponent and he won't know what hit him!" I think this is wrong. To fight an aerial army on anything like fair terms, you need at least some Shooters, Artillery, or Magicians. So I E-mailed this whole page to Darkhost shortly before I started painting the army.
Oh, and about the design: I wanted to see how an all-aerial army would work. So, with all aerial element types represented, as well as the option for ground troops to bag enemy Strongholds under the revised HotT 2 rules, we'll see how it works.
STATUS
Completely painted but with incomplete bases, and no stronghold yet. I have no plans for even adding any of the optional troops, but we'll see what happens. GZG has some nice 15mm sci-fi figs, so maybe in the future...
BATTLES
17jul2001: Fighting against Lizardmen. for the debut appearance of the Sky-Pirates, I lost two JetPods to my opponent's Flyers very early in the game. Shortly thereafter, Captain Stag became a casualty to a Shooter element. After that it was just a matter of how long could my Flyers last against his Shooters. Not long, apparently. This is much trickier to play than I had imagined... the high PIP cost of moving the army forced me to move nothing but Airboats in the later stages of the game. I defintiely want to try this one again, however.
