PULEX IRRITANS

Voice - Alex
Guitar - Steve
Bass - Nick
Drums - Borstal

PULEX IRRITANS were a young
outfit originally formed in
Wolverhampton, England back in
December 1981 and had
Jez - Guitar, Borstal - Vocals,
Eagle - Bass and transient
drummers. However they folded
after about 6 months and a
disasterous gig with
the Stench
and G.B.H. where Jez had his
guitar smashed by Jock outta
G.B.H. The various members
went onto other local bands,
most notably
Seventh Plague.
However the name
Pulex
Irritans
(Latin for fleas) was
too good to stay quiet for long
and was once more reformed
circa 1983 with a brand new
line-up featuring Alex, who was
a female student at the local Polytechnic. Borstal the original singer who was now singing in
Seventh Plague took over the drum seat. Pulex Irritans with Alex on vocals had the makings of a really good outfit but were destined for another shortlived career. I think they managed to do about a handful of localised gigs. They did however manage to donate 2 impressive tracks to a local band showcase independent 45 'The Aristocrap EP'. This surfaced in 1984 on Relegated Records. The tracks they donated were 'The Battle Of Waterloo' (bet one of em studied History?) which had some great guitar work and the suprisingly good and almost anthem like 'I Hate Cities' which was no doubt inspired by Wolverhampton. This collectors item on a label named after the local football teams (Wolves) dismal efforts the previous season (some things never change -Dont Care) is well worth hearing. The bassplayer/label boss Nick Moss was the man who held the purse strings he was also Alex's boyfriend was an avid Wolves fan despite coming from Crewe.  Artwork for the sleeve was done by another local punkette artist Rachel Chidley, who was last spotted working at the towns Lighthouse Cinema.
