Hopeless/Sub City Sampler - 2001: A Punk Oddity
www.hopelessrecords.com - www.subcity.net

It's seven tracks, seven bands....and it's an alright listen. It opens with a band called Thrice. They play a sought of emo-hardcore jam. By far the most impressive on the sampler and easily my favourite. Next is Against All Authority, which I didn't like very much. They play and old school/oi brand with a few cuts of ska. If your in to that you'd probably enjoy it. The Weakerthans then play Aside from their latest album Left and Leaving. A very downbeat ballad and one definately for the 'open' listener. Nevertheless, this band is great. Samiam are up next with their pushy poppy-emo song Sunshine, from their full length Astray. Yet another band I like....if you haven't already heard them, I suggest you do. Yesterday is the next song from Mustard Plug. This band is probably one for all the keen ska fans out there, and I'm sure they've heard them already. They have that speedy punk element that most like about this ska song. Next is the one-man band Atom And His Package with Undercover Funny. I didn't really like this at all, finding it a bit too boring. Closing the sampler is the Selby Tigers with Flashbars. Very rocky.....but just another chick-band to me, but not all will agree with me. Nevertheless, a pretty good sample of the stable from Hopeless/Sub City. Thrice, Mustard Plug, Samiam and The Weakerthans were my favourites.
