Topnovil are one of the few bands around the country dedicated to playing hard edged, high energy punk rock. Since Topnovil will be on the No Idea tour of the east coast (that and Jake is obsessed) we decided to ask a few questions of the band.

Ok, just to get started, who are you and who are Topnovil?
I'm Daim Toppy bass player. (below left)
We are a four peice punk band from the Illwarra region of NSW

What (if anything) does the name mean?
We were actually gonna call ourselves "Flipside 180 shove it" but DD's other band is called that . Topnovil is the sound a horse makes when it Ejaculates! No one can dispute that cause who is usually around ejaculating horses??

I recently saw you guys live down in Melbourne, (you were awesome) is your live show something you put a lot of importance in?
For me its the live performance and energy that gets me into the band, CD's are great but nothing beats watching a band live.
We put a lot of effort into our live show its always been a priority of ours to be energetic and interesting.

This question is from Matt. He asks "What would you find in a Topnovil showbag?"
A big black Dildo, lots of lube and a Naked picture of Carl from No Idea

Listening to the Trash Radio demo, I noticed a huge change in styles between your releases. What would you put this down to?
Weve had a few line up changes from the start but recently our drummer moved to guitar and Adam brady (Neveready) becoming our new drummer new people bring new fresh ideas time you get influenced by alot of different styles and it comes out!! I really like how weve evolved from our first cd "Keen as a mule" to the "Trash Radio demo" and the new stuff were writing now.

Which bands would be on the line-up at your dream gig?
Excellent question! weve have talked about this heaps of times. I'd have to say. Run for cover, Topnovil, No Idea, Vicious, H-Block 101, Anti Flag, Rancid man I have heaps of dream line ups I'd love to play too many to write. We are lucky enough to play on alot of our dream gigs just with bands like Unpaid debt. The last hemeroids, No Idea, Vicious, H-Block, Mach pelican etc etc

Assuming you answer this before the No Idea tour, would you please play Action Boy in Melbourne??? Please!!!
Man our drummer will have to take a crash course we might be able to do it, No Promises though

Who do you think would win in a fight, Mr T's character in Rocky 3 or Fonzy from Happy Days?
Fonzy for sure ive never seen Mr T fix a juke box with a tap of the fist or clear a mens toilet block with the click of his fingers. Style beats muscle any day!!! We could test that one Spun (Topnovil guitarist) Vs Lukey Stewart (Run For Cover singer). That's close to fonzy Vs Mr T.

I noticed on your website that it says not to send money to America to rebuild, send it to a starving nation who needs it (which I could not agree with more). So, I ask how do you feel about the bombings in America?
Ok in MY opinion I feel that it's wrong to kill another human being not matter what your reason is and I feel very sorry for the families of the people killed and I feel for the American people. My point is America will bounce back we all know that. I think its sad that people dig deep for this when people are starving all over the world year in year out! Our priorities are all wrong!. Fighting for peace is like Fucking for Virginity!

Any other messages for the punks of Australia?
Up the punks!!

One final question, what is in the future for Topnovil?
Same as usual. We are gonna record in a couple of months and release something real soon. and we are booked to play on a new channel V show called "The Gig" which I think is us raping our intruments for about half an hour, its a sad day when Topnovil get on TV. No it should be a blast I'll post details on our website (http://www.topnovil.live.com.au) soon as I know. Hopefully we'll a few people along.

Topnovil can be seen playing the east coast from the 3rd to the 21st of October on the No Idea tour (featuring No Idea, Neveready, Topnovil and Run For Cover). Their live show is not to be missed. You can visit the band's official website here. Also, be sure to visit the band's site on Mp3.com.au for some free mp3s.
