Okay first question I want to ask. Who is Marzeepan? Who's in the band and what does each do?
Um, I try to play guitar and so does Brutus. Gricey plays bass and goes in for a bit of backdoor...I mean backup vox. Matt sings and Kevin usually plays his drums too fast.
How'd did you guys all meet? When did you get together?
We were all mates before we even took up instruments. Gricey and Kevin have always been best mates and Brutus and I were mates and Keirin and Brett are brothers. I think our first gig was a bit under 2 yrs ago.
Okay, I also want to ask about, Matt, the new singer. Why was he added to the lineup?
Well I guess the main reason we got Matt was that we, and Gricey in particular, sucked even more than we do now. We used to see him in his old band and thought he was sexy and when they broke up we conned him into joining. He fits in like he's been with us the whole time.
What does Marzeepan mean? How did you guys come up with the name?
Can you remember any other names that you were thinking of calling the band as well?
The origin of the name is a terribly long and shitty story with no punchline at all so I wont go into it...basically it means nothing. We dont really care for the typical 'take a catch phrase and name your band after it sorta thing'. Its got nothing to do with fucking cake icing thats for sure so stop asking!!! Dont think we had any other names in mind but for a while there Gricey kept forgetting the name on the piss and thought we were called M-Plex.
Your first gig, any memories? Any shit go wrong?
First real gig was at Caboolture Sports Club, there was over 200 people there and we were shitting bricks. I have it on tape and we actually didnt play too bad.
What has been your best gig so far?
For sure when we played with Bodyjar. They'd been our favourite band for years and just awesome guys to hang out with. Of course we got wayyy too pissed and made asses of ourselves.
I downloaded the Fall mp3 from your site and it is good stuff. Have you done any other recordings? Are you going to release some of this stuff?
We got Matt so we thought we better have some new stuff recorded. We're gonna release a 5 track ep in about a month or so...weve just gotta put the vocals down. We released an ep a bit over a year ago and it is just so unbelievably bad, i mean really really bad. If anyone still has a copy I suggest you destroy it. Now lets never speak of this again.
Your thoughts on the Brisbane scene, if any
Yeh the Brisbane scene seems ok but i havent been interstate so i have nothing to compare it against. We definitly need more venues,especially in or around the valley and especially all ages. Other than the gabba theres nothing. Guys like anthony and bert are rad.
What Brisbane bands do the Marzeepan guys dig?
Jokes on me are just a fucking awesome band that need to play more shows and hurry up and get signed. I cant see how these guys wont go further than local status. They usually put out too. Nob also rock - so tight with so much feeling and so much technical skill.
5 items in a rider, what would Marzeepan request and why?
XXXX for me, turkey for matador, rum for brutus, beam for gricey and any kind of illicit drug for kevin..i spose mainly coz we are all straight edge and christians...
5 bands on the bill, what bands would Marzeepan be playing with if you could choose from anyone?
5 bands? - Strung Out are my favourite band of all time, Bodyjar, Jokes on me, ODS and us. Its hard to narrow it down to five dammit.
Marzeepan drinking competition, who would win?
Thats a tough one. Brutus and matador are pansies...Kevin and Gricey would be a good match...yeh too close to call. Gricey has the size advantage but kevin has years and years and years of experience - anyone who has had the displeasure of meeting him will vouch for this.
In the tour van who in the band would you least like to sit next to and why?
Um, Id have to say Gricey mainly because I hate him and hes a fuckhead. Plus I think he may be hetero.
Also I have to ask if you guys are English soccer fanatics. Who do you guys support?
