Mike got the chance to interview gob's singer and guitarist Theo while gob were touring in Toronto, Canada. Expect a bigger interview early next year, but for now, Read Up!
Mike:
Hey guys.
Mike: OK first thing i'm sure EVERYBODY in Australia
wants to know is when is gob actually going to be in Australia and what sorts
of things do you want to do when they get here?
Theo:
Early January, hopefully. We want to run with the joeys and swim with the great
whites.
Mike:
The the CD "THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GOB" is being released in Canada on October
10 right? So when does that mean it will be out down here for the millions of
punkers wanting it? And how does the music off this album compare to that of the
previous rockin' albums?
Theo:
Beginning of January. It's more mature, back to rock roots. You can hear the melody
now and you can sing along.
Mike: The new video as well, I've seen
some of the music vids and I must say, good shit. But will that be available to
punkers in Australia or are you just gonna throw a bunch of copies out into crowds
when you play here??
Theo:
One day, maybe. Our record label deals with that. But we really want it to be
seen everywhere. Festival Records really believes in us, so we are going to work
with them in Aus.
Mike: I hear that gob just went on a 3 month
tour, is it specifically to promote the new CD? or just something that everyone
decided to do, because hey, touring rocks right?
Theo: Both. To promote the new CD and tour because we love it.
Mike: The cover of "Paint it Black" was originally a Rolling Stones song, so does this mean that someone in gob is a Stones fan? And what other influences do you have?
Theo:
We were asked to cover that song (we like it), for the Stir of Echoes movie....you
know with Kevin Bacon. Other influences: AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Metallica. Anything
that sold over 10 million records.
Mike: I know you have intentions
for playing on the Aussie Warped tour leg, but nothings definite. Are you really
THAT keen to do it? You know that everyone here wants you to play right!?
Theo:
We are more than keen. We are creaming our jeans to play for you crazy Aussies.
Ozzy RULES!
Mike: And WHEN you do get here do you think that gob
will have a decent support base? Anyone reading this interview will know the answer
to this one, I think everyone's interested what you really think!
Theo:
If there are 10 people there, we'll be stoked. Every person counts.
Mike:
Nearly done here. Are there any other bands you'd like to tour with around Australia
if you couldn't come with Warped? Like any bands from Canada or the US?
Theo: Only one. AC/DC, Chixdiggit.
Mike: Alright, thanks Theo, you've been great.
Theo:
Right on.
Mike: We all hope to see you down here soon, and get into that new CD! Actually one last thing, how do people order the new CD if they're keen to have it before it is released down here?
