The Wonderful World of Kari's Music
Yeh, well, it's a Wednesday night.  No school tomorrow.  I'm bored.  Plus music is basically my life, so here's a page totally devoted to my music and the music I love.  Random fun things ^-^
My Music
The Music I Love
So, if you know me at all, you know I'm a singer.  And no, not a, "well, I did choir once, and I'm a stereotypical teenage girl who wants to be a celebrity so I'll call myself a singer."  I'm an ACTUAL singer. I prefer to sing Classical than Pop.  So, let me tell you about the groups I'm involved with, like it would actually interest you :-)

At my high school, I'm in my fourth year of Concert choir and women's choir.  In concert choir I used to sing S2, but now sing A1, and in women's choir I sing S2 and occasionally A1 or A2 when needed.  Last year I got into our Madrigals, (try out,) group, that was absolutely amazing, (I'll try to post some sounds clips up,) and in Mads I sing A1.  This year I'm also doing Leading Ladies, a try out female ensemble of eight girls.  In LL, I sing either A1 or S2, depending on how the music is written.

Basically, if ya didn't guess, I can sing almost any part.  When I'm fully warmed up I can sing from about E3 to A6.  If that doesn't make sense, anything above two octives is considered a large range, and mine's about 2.5, which is preatty good for a my age, I guess.   Other than that, I have a fairly plain voice, good but not great, but it's a good voice for group ensembles.  I'm planning on double majoring in college with Music, hopefully getting the chance to do classical singing.

As well as my four groups, I'm very involved in drama, especially the musicals.  I'm recently played Violet in "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown," which consists of a lot of chorus numbers, and auditions for the musical, "Oklahoma!" start next week! ^-^

Like I said, I'll try to get some sounds clips of the groups up, and maybe some pictures and other fun stuff like that.   I'm a geek, it's okay, I'm proud of it.
My tastes vary from day to day, but there is basically nothing I don't like.  Most of the stuff I will admit to disliking is the mainstream MTV music, solely because a lot of them are marketable, but not neccesarily talented.  Don't get me wrong, I'll be rocking to Good Charlotte or Justin Timberlake on the road, but they're not the groups I really admire.  And for your boredom pleasure, all the groups, specific CD's that I'm in love with, and why.

Nickel Creek - they are my all time favorite group.  They're young, but don't sound it.  They do an amazing mix of bluegrass, traditionally folk, pop, and other genres, and are all rediculously talented.  Plus, when I saw them live, it's, wow.  It's impossible to keep your eyes off them, because they are so loaded with energy, (espec. Chris,) making them the perfect band.

Eddie From Ohio - Another blugrass/folk/pop mix.  They're older, in their thirties, but they write awesome songs, with awesome harmonies, and Jebus can they play their instruments.  And can I just say her voice is... *faints* Plus they're proud of their VA roots, which is totally rockin', (and my cousin knows them)

Ben Harper - One of those college druggy favorites, but I love him.  His acoustic ballads are absolutely breath-taking, his words are eloquent and intelligent, and he's got the balls to sing about smokin up in the midst of it.  He's just one of those musicians that you just listen to and absorb.

Indochine - !! I'm all about the French music, and they are by far one of the best.  I can't really explain why they're so awesome, but I kinda compare them to Coldplay.  A mix of hard and soft, and just very non-American sounding.

Coldplay - Yeh, they're mainstream, but I still love them.  I think they're brilliant in their simplicity.   They really have a great mixture of vocals and instruments, so one can truly apprectiate their musical merit while still be sucked in by the powerful lyrics.

Flogging Molly - Blame Bry for this one.  I loveeeee Irish music, and this band has hit the nail on the head.  They combine awesome Irish sounds with heavy hitting rock infused.  They're something totally different, and they are just so fun to listen to, you've gotta love em.

Will ad more soon ^-^
