| Beautiful Soldier Sailormoon, called simply "Sailor Moon" in English, is the story of a klutzy crybaby named Usagi (Serena or Bunny). One day she comes across some boys tormenting a black cat, and when she saves it she is startled to find it following her. Soon it reveals itself as Luna, guardian of the Moon, and tells Usagi that she must rise to face her greater destiny. Usagi is given a transformation wand and transforms into the beautiful Sailor Moon -- the sailor-suited girl who wields magical powers to defeat the enemies of justice. Throughout her quest, Usagi eventually discovers all of the cosmic warriors - Sailors Venus, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Pluto, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Chibi Chibi, Chibi Moon, Star Healer, Star Fighter, Star Maker, and Cosmos. Each sports her own unique attacks based on astrological powers. Usagi enters a romantic relationship with her fated love Mamoru (Darien) who fights as Tuxedo Mask. |

| Sailormoon is often made fun of because of its girl-power cliche. However, it is important to realize that Sailormoon was one of the first animes of its genre -- other "magical girl" animes were cliches off of it, because it's an original work. Sailormoon sports pretty average animation, but the lack of intense detail might due to the sheer length of the series. With over five seasons well over twenty episodes each (some over over thirty and forty), Sailormoon provides a whole arsenal of miniplots tying into one big scheme. Those who have never seen Sailormoon before might be confused by the season with Chibi Moon it, but other than that most episodes of seasons have fairly independent plots. Episodes tends to be pretty formulated. Each episode, the girls are minding their own business and discover or are attacked by an enemy, and then they defeat it after various challenges or are saved by Tuxedo Mask. Occasionally interesting deviations or expository episodes occur, though, and the ends of seasons are always entertaining. Overall, Sailormoon's best virtues are light-heartedness, pretty attack sequences, astrological themes, compatibility with RPGs, music, and lyrics, in addition to all the cute toys. As it was my first anime, I will always have to admire its addicting quality and its friendliness to fans. Yay, Naoko! ~Kit |

| SailorMoon: Usagi / Serena, also called Bunny in the manga, is the reincarnation of the Moon Princess. She is the destined leader of the group, but also the ditziest and whiniest. She loves Mamoru / Darien and her cat Luna. Colors: Pink, white, yellow. Attacks: Energy, love. SailorMercury: Ami / Amy is the, quiet, intelligent, reserved senshi of the group. She is usually far engrossed in her studies and exibiting perfect manners. Colors: Blue, aqua. Attacks: Water and ice bubbles. SailorMars: Rei / Raye is the fiery, bossy, and egotistical senshi of the group. She lives in a temple with her grandfather and possesses psychic powers. Colors: Red, black, purple. Attacks: Fire and spirits. SailorVenus: Minako / Mina is ditzy, flirtacious, and girly. She has a cat of her own, Artemisu, and loves boys. She acts like SailorMoon. Colors: Orange, yellow, navy. Attacks: Love and beauty, love chain. SailorJupiter: Makota / Lita is a rugged tomboy who loves cooking, plants, and (surprisingly) lots of boys. She tends to be violent but loyal. Colors: Green, pink, brown. Attacks: Lightning, thunder, plants. SailorPluto: Setsuna / (Krista?) is the keeper of the Gates of Time and possesses the Garnet Rod. She is distant, aloof, lonely, and older. Colors: Garnet, black, dark green. Attacks: Time, death, garnet. SailorNeptune: Michiru / (Michelle?) is a prodigy in arts, especially the violin and painting. She is soft-spoken and gentle, but often distant and cold towards the others. Owns the Aqua Mirror Talisman which she uses in attacks. Colors: Aqua, teal, navy. Attacks: Ocean, waves. SailorUranus: Haruka / (Amara?) is the prodigy of fast athletics. She |

Colors: Yellow, navy. Attacks: Earthquakes, wind. SailorSaturn: Hotaru died in a lab accident as a child and was reincarnated by Pharoah 90. Because of her sad past, she is shy, dark, and reclusive. She is the Silent Messiah, the most powerful of all senshi with the power to destroy the world. She gets possessed as Mistress 9. Colors: Black, dark purple, grey. Attacks: Silence, death, rebirth, revolution. Tuxedo Mask: Mamoru / Darien is the guardian of the earth. He is the only true male of the group, and is Sailormoon's destined true love. He is older than the group and more intelligent, though prone to strangely philosophical entrances. SailorChibiMoon: Chibi-usa / Rini is actually the future child of Sailormoon and Tuxedo Mask who comes back to the past several times to train and defend her family. She is a spoiled stubborn brat. Colors: Pink, red. Attacks: Hearts. SailorChibiChibi: ChibiChibi has a mysterious origin that is possibly (no spoilers!) linked to Sailorcosmos. She is an exceptionally generous and sweet little child, particularly fond of cake. Colors: Red, blue, pink. Attacks: Few and rare. |

| SailorStarLights: The Lights come with somewhat mysterious origins as well. (Read the manga - still no spoilers!) They transform into very powerful scouts though they are not aligned to planets. Colors: Black, white, yellow. Healer, Fighter, and Maker use energy attacks such as "Star Sensitive Inferno" with no elemental alignment either - just power. |
