| Number Four (The Controversial Talent Contest): Adam had returned from Peterborough and was living back in Chippenham. We were approached with idea of playing in the Sheldon talent show and Adam�s girlfriend and close friend of the band members, Danni, filled in our application without us knowing and we were set to play Jimmy Eat world�s �Bleed American� for a shot as top act of Sheldon school 2002. But guess what happens, a few days before we�re set to play Ash returns from his rugby tour with a skin infection and he can�t play again and believe or not I don�t know the lead to Bleed American. The four of us left decide to try something else, and again it�s a brand new song that we�re going to have to learn just days before we play, usual story. We decide on �Rape Me� by Nirvana, with both Tim and I on guitar and Tom and Adam in their usual spots, I�d sing but this time there was no practise session before hand, so we plan to get on stage and hope for the best. It actually went pretty well although as Adam�s a hard hitter, he knocked his crash symbol down onto his hi-hat and snare half-way through so was forced to throw it across the stage. The song �Rape Me� created controversy and the teachers began telling the moshers I was singing �break me�. The moshing got pretty hard-core during this song and the teachers flooded in to break it up, but ultimately made it worse. I think it was during this gig that our Head-Teacher got a face full of elbow and slammed against a wall. This song was an album song so not many people knew it and we didn�t get as much praise from the townie ruffers for it, however I was proud of the shock sustained by the audience and the teachers. A sixth form girl won the show by singing some crappy pop song to a backing track. The bad thing about this performance was the year ten jock who came to see us and a few people from our year, who�d continue to say �rape me� in a mocking tone around school for the rest of our days there. Those dumb shits have no idea. |
