(trick tips)

This section is to help you learn those tricks you can't do because you suck. I personally think that you should get out on your board and learn 'em yourself, but, hey, I'm here to help. So here ya go. Maybe someday I'll make a glossary to give definitions of tricks, but for now I'll tell you what the trick is in the description.

stances

regular

This stance has your right foot on tail and your left foot further up on the board.

goofy

This stance has your left foot on tail and your right foot further up on the board.

switch

Switch stance skating has become a staple in skateboarding these past 10 years. Anyways, switch stance skating is skating with your feet oppisite of what they normally are. If you normally skate regular, switch for you is skating goofy and vice versa for normally goofy footed skaters.

fakie

Fakie means backwards. So fakie is skating backwards.

nollie

nollie is switch fakie.

the ollie

Well, you're a beginner, eh? Well congrats on getting into skating. It's a shitload of fun. But first ya gotta learn the basics. This is about as basic as it gets. The ollie is just basically jumping with your board. So here's how it goes. You want your back foot on the tail of the board(whichever feels more comfortable). Put your front foot on the middle of the board , with your toes on the toe edge of the board. Bend your knees and bend down enough to get a nice spring. (See some of my videos for a visual). Now you wanna slam the tail of the board down with your back foot, and the split second you slam, slide your front foot up the board and jump while doing this. At first this may sound and look hard, but you'll get it with enough practice.

pop shuvit- frontside and backside

There are two types of pop shuvits- ones that you spin out in front of you (frontside) and ones that you spin behind you(backside). Backside shuvits are probably what you will want to learn first, because they are easiest to throw and land.

backside shuvits

Alright, for backside shuvits, you will put your back foot on the tail as you would any trick (duh). As for your front foot, put it where it feels most comfortable, but keep in mind the farther up the board it is, the easier it is to control, and the harder it is to throw the board, and the farther back on the board it is the easier it is to throw but the harder it is to control. Now, slam down on the tail and try to push the board back with your back foot, and use your front foot to keep the spin even. Hint: Spin the board at the same speed with both feet. Now just stay above the board and when it comes 180 degrees around, stomp your feet down on it, land it clean, and roll away.

frontside shuvits

The frontside shuvit is almost the same trick as a backside shuvit, but the board spins the opposite way. So stomp down on the tail and instead of pushing the board back, push outward with your foot, and let it spin. Hint: For this trick, you need a bit more time above the board to be able to catch it because frontside shuvits are just like that. Don't ask me; I didn't invent gravity, I'm not a rocket scientist. It just happens that way. So try to stay up above the board longer for this one, and like backside pop shuvits, when the board completes its 180 degree rotation, stomp it down and land smooth and roll away like a pro.

360 pop shove it

180 shuvit x 2. throw it harder, pick ya legs up higher, and stomp it harder. its all relative.

the kickflip

The kickflip is probably the most popular flip trick in all of street skating, and for good reason. Kickflips are cool tricks to learn. They look cool, feel cool, and impress the girls. But you shouldn't worry about that just yet. Anyways, kickflips flip to the left if you ride regular and to the right if you ride goofy. Hint: Use the side of your toe to flick the board. You're gonna wanna put your back foot in the position you do for every flip trick (you should know by now). How fast you want the board to spin or how good you are at flipping the board determines how far forward or backward you should place your front foot, although you're gonna have to have to have just the ball of your foot on the board and the rest hanging off the side to do this trick. What feels and works the best for you should determine at what angle you should place your foot. Remember, there are no rules to skateboarding except having respect for other skaters and ... well that's the only rule i can think of at the time,so just follow that one. So do what you want and make it your own, or it will never be fun. Now for the tricky part. You want to slam down the tail and at the same time, use your ollie skills to slide your foot up the board but flick it off to the side with your toe instead of sliding up. Once you flip it well, bring your legs up and allow the board to flip freely underneath you. One you see the board start coming around again, begin to lower your legs. When you see the griptape again, slam your feet down onto the board, and land it smooth, knowing you just pulled off a sweet trick.

the heelflip

This trick is very similar to the kickflip, except the board flips the opposite way. That is, if you ride regular, they flip to the right, and if you ride goofy, to the left.anyways, set your back foot up like you always do, and put your front foot in the middle of the board with your toes just about over the far edge of the board. Bend down, pop the tail, ollie normal, and when you're sliding your foot up the board, kinda roll your foot to where your heel hits it and keep flicking out in one smooth motion. Let the board flip beneath you. Hint: if you are having trouble flipping the board the whole way around, try it fakie, almost every trick is easier to flip fakie. After the board finishes its rotation, bring your feet down and catch it, roll away like you're pro.

the varialflip a.k.a. flip varial or varial

This trick is an extension of a kickflip and half a 360 flip. So it is a popshuvit kickflip. This trick is just basically a 180 flip, a popshuvit thatflips like a kickflip. To do this trick, put your back foot on the tail and your front foot where it feels the best and the most comfortable. Hint: The further forward on the board your foot is, the harder it is to flip it all the way and the harder you have to try. Alright, now, you wanna pop the tail, and shove the board, while you flip it reallly hard. Let it rotate freely, and when it starts to come around and flip back over correctly, lower your feet and stomp it out. Roll away knowing you're one step away from the tre flip!

360 flip a.k.a. tre flip

varial flip x 2. a 360 shuvit that flips like a kickflip.shuvit 2x as hard as a varial flip and kickflip it half as hard, it has more room to rotate and flip. the hardest part of this trick is getting it to flip all the way and letting it rotate. after you learn how to throw it right the landings easy. so let it rotate freely underneath you, when it finishes fliping, stomp it down and roll away like youre god.
