SAJOYA - HERSTORY

A visionary with a mission is an appropriate description of Sandra Joy Alcott, aka Sajoya.  This multi-talented lawyer calls herself a natural rights activist.  Born in London and growing up in England and, later on, Jamaica, has helped to shape Sajoya into the bold, fearless leader she has become.  Her interests and involvements are many.  As a healer, she, along with others, has worked with the elderly, in particular in the Ras Tafari community, in easing their pain.

As a lawyer, she has earned the distinction of being one of the premier entertainment lawyers in Jamaica.  As an artist, Sajoya sees no limitations. The Pum Pum Posse leader and founder recognises the need for Sex Edutainment.  There is a crisis where human sexuality is concerned.  We need to stop ignoring it and start addressing it in a way whereby our adults and children will sit up and take heed.  Too many children continue to be abused, women raped and men emasculated.  Our people are dying of AIDS and we are ignoring it.  Someone has to wake up the nation with Word Sound and Power. People need to learn to love again. This is my mission.

Sajoya has been president of the Jamaica Association of Female Artists (JAFA) since 1997.
