Federal Uniform and Gear Requirements

Uniform
Headgear:
1. Forage Cap - Federal or indigo wool, leather bill with leather sweatband.
2. Civilian Slouch Hat - Edge of brim as well as hat band bound with silk.  No "hill billy", unblocked, floppy hats.
3.  Hardee Hat - black wool felt, hand-stitched sweatband, label in crown, double-stitched on brim.

Shirt:
1. U.S. regulation issue.  Single closure at neck.  Donet flannel.  To be hand-stitched and flat-felled seams.  Natural off-white.
2. Contract shirt - Blue, gray, or tan cotton.  Machine stitched with hand sewn button holes.
3. Civilian shirt - 100% wool or 100% cotton; woven checks or muslin with hand-sewn button holes.

Coat:
1. Fatique blouse.  Lined or unlined.  5-8oz. wool/flannel, 4 button front.  Hand sewn button holes.
2. Commercial blouse - Civilian manufacture.  Lined, 4, 5, or 6 button front.  Hand sewn button holes.
3. State / shell jacket - Lined with shoulder straps, 9 button front.
4. Frock coat - Lined and padded.  9 button front with tail pockets.  Hand sewn button holes.

Trousers:  sky blue, 21 oz. wool kersey with stamped tin paper back buttons.
1. Schuykill Arsenal - All hand stitched.  Hand sewn button holes.
2. T. Martin Pattern - All hand stitched.  Hand sewn button holes.
3. Steubenville Arsenal - Machine or hand stitched.  Hand sewn button holes.
4. Cincinnati Contract Trousers - Machine stitched.  Hand sewn button holes.

Suspenders:  Any type of civilian model with tin or brass buckle.  NO nickel plated metal.

Drawers:
1. Military issue.  Hand sewn button holes.
2. Civilian pattern.  Hand sewn button holes.

Socks:  Civilian socks of cotton or wool.  Hand knit is best.

Shoes:
1.  Jefferson booties/brogans
2.  Identified civlian boots.

Blankets:  NO quilts.
1.  Brown or gray U.S. issue blanket.
2.  Civilian blanket of 100% wool with muted earth tones.  Limited use.

Tentage:  U.S. issue shelter half (early war) with rope and hand sewn grommets.  NO brass grommets.

Gum Blanket:  U.S. issue gum blanket.  NO large grommets.

Haversack:  U.S. issue tarred type with buckle and inner bag.

Canteen:
1. U.S. issue smoothside with or without jean or wool cover.
2. U.S. issue bullseye with or without jean or wool cover.

Knapsack:  Optional usage.  U.S. issue double bag.

Cartridge box:
1. U.S. issue M-1855 box with plate.
2. Other U.S. issue.

Cap Pouch:
1. U.S. issue M-1850
2. U.S. Shield front.

Waistbelt:  U.S. issue black bridle leather with belt plate.

Bayonet Scabbard:
1. U.S. 7 or 8 rivet for Springfield or Enfield.
2. U.S. 2 rivet for Springfield.

Weapon:  Reproduction weapons need proper modifications including removal of all anachronistic markings and polyurethane and correctly stamped.
1.  P- 1853 Enfield

3.  M-1855 Springfield.

NO anachronisms such as, but not limited to:
Modern eyeglasses
Modern jewelry
Wristwatches
Cigarettes
Enlisted use of cigars
Modern wrappers, containers, etc.
